Rabin Square

In the history of Israel there are many sad pages. One of them became the reason for the renaming of the square in Tel Aviv . In the heart of the city is the square of Rabin, which was once called the kings of Israel. The name was given in honor of the famous rulers of the state. The project area with a monument to the victims of the Holocaust in the center came up with two architects - Yaski and Alexandroni.

Rabin Square - description

The main purpose of the venue is holding rallies, official and social events. The Rabin Square was also used for holding parades of the Israeli army and celebrating Independence Day.

The modern name took its place after the sad event that took place on November 4, 1995. On the square after the speech at the rally, three shots in the chest killed the Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin. After the incident, the square was literally filled with burning candles in memory of the late social and political activist.

The Prime Minister was immediately ranked among the national heroes, and the square was renamed in his honor. In 1996, even erected a monument of 16 basalt boulders, which were specially brought from the Golan Heights. He was installed in the place where Yitzhak Rabin fell. The author described the monument as the result of an earthquake, because such a monstrous act really turned out to be a political upheaval. In addition to the monument, about the murder of the Prime Minister I also recall the inscriptions made on the walls of the buildings that day.
