A little about the artist himself

Reuben Rubin was born in Romania in 1893. From the very childhood the boy was interested in drawing and firmly decided to connect his life with art. When Reuven was 19 years old, he first came to Palestine, which at that time was part of the Ottoman Empire. He was so impressed by the beauty and greatness of these lands that he decided to stay here forever. The young man easily entered the Bezalel Art School in Jerusalem, but soon realized that he wanted more and went to study in Paris.

Having received a brilliant education, Rubin wanted to return to Palestine, but the war broke all his plans. More than five years, Reuven is trying to find his "place under the sun", moving from one country to another. He lived in France, Italy, Romania, the USA and Ukraine. In 1922, Rubin finally returns to his beloved land and settles in Tel Aviv.

From this moment, the creative take-off of the artist begins. His first works were distinguished by a peculiar original style - a combination of modern and Palestinian themes. All the pictures Rubin writes bright saturated colors and pays much attention to the construction of a clear composition. Very soon, Reuben Rubin from small exhibits in the public galleries "doris" to the prestigious personal exhibitions.

In the 1940s and 1950s, the artist dramatically changed his style from figurative painting to classical symbolism. New works, despite the fears of critics, cause even greater interest in the artist. Exhibitions are exhibited in the best museums in the country, in 1969, Rubin was invited to work on the design of the new residence of the President of Israel , and in 1973 Reuven awarded the State Prize for special achievements in the field of art.
