Those who are seriously interested in growing roses, probably heard about the elegant beauty of the rose Gloria Dei, or Gloria Day. This representative of the tea-hybrid class was bred in the 30s of the last century by the French breeder Francis Mejan and immediately won the hearts of gardeners around the world.
Rose "Gloria Day" - description
This tea-hybrid rose grows to 100-120 cm in height. It develops a large bud with a diameter of up to 14-19 cm, which, while dissolving, reveals to the world a magnificent terry flower consisting of four to five dozen petals. Their color is inexpressibly chic: the opening bud of goblet shape of yellow-green color gradually turns into yellow with pale pink edges of petals. Over time, the edge of pale pink turns into a bright pink.
However, the tea-hybrid rose Gloria Day is appreciated for other advantages: a pleasant rich flavor, intense flowering, frost resistance, resistance to many diseases.
Rose "Gloria Day" - planting and care
The planting of roses is carried out at the end of April-May, when the soil gets warm enough. To do this, choose a sunny place, closed from strong winds, with fertile loose soil with a neutral or slightly acid reaction. It is recommended to lay a drainage layer in the planting pit. If the soil is not suitable in your garden, you can prepare it yourself, mixing the fertile soil, sand and humus in a ratio of 2: 1: 1.
In the future, the grade of the Gloria Dei Rose will require regular watering and weeding from weeds. Take care of additional fertilizing with complex fertilizers, which are made twice: in spring and in summer in July.
Do not forget to prune in early spring, both the sanitary and the forming bush. Despite the fact that Gloria Day's rose is frost-resistant, it is better to create a shelter in regions with a harsh winter.
