Tenorio Volcano

In Costa Rica, there is simply an astounding number of volcanoes, and more than half of them are active. However, Tenorio can be attributed to the group of dormant, although seismologists register periodic activity here. However, history will not remember the recorded cases of eruptions, although local people talk about 1816, but these are only rumors.

In its structure, Tenorio consists of four volcanic peaks and two craters. In altitude, it reaches 1916 m above sea level. A volcano is located in the north-western part of the country, near the town of Cañas. Surrounds Tenorio with the same name park, the area of ​​which occupies 32 thousand hectares. Here you can see a lot of interesting things. For example, in the park there are rare orchids, and among the flora, ferns and palms predominate.

At the foot of the volcano there are many thermal springs, geysers with hot water periodically explode, so do not be extremely careless, and admire the beauties, still think about security as well. In addition, here you can see even a small waterfall. The famous Tenorio volcano is also the river Celeste, which was formed after the confluence of the rivers Roble and Bueno Vista. Its uniqueness lies in the amazing azure color of the water. This is dictated by special processes of evaporation and precipitation of various minerals. However, the local population believes that it was in this place that God washed his hands after painting the sky in blue. However, the halo of the mysterious legend does not spoil this place at all, and even on the contrary - it gives it a certain shade of mysticism.

How to get there?

Getting to the village of Cañas from San Jose can easily be done by public transport . If you are traveling in a rented car, then you should drive along the route number 1 and number 6. The road will take just under 4 hours.
