The Blue Cave


The Blue Cave is one of the most famous natural sites in Montenegro . It is located on the peninsula of Lustica, not far from Herceg Novi , a few kilometers from the island of Mamula . It is popular because of the amazing color of water, which is obtained due to the refraction of the sun's rays in crystal clear water - they give a saturated bright blue glow. There are a lot of such grottos on the coast near Herceg Novi, but only in the Blue Cave the height of the vaults (it is 25 m) allows you to go here to the boats.

What is the Blue Cave?

The Blue Grotto is large, with an area of ​​about 300 square meters. m, a natural cave. The height of the vaults is 25 m. Two entrances, washed by the waters of the Bay of Kotor, lead to the cave. In the "visit program" of the Blue Cave is bathing, which usually takes about 10-15 minutes. The water here seems warmer than outside.

How to get to the Blue Cave?

You can get to the Blue Cave only by water. From the beaches of Janica and Mirišté , water excursions are regularly sent to the cave, the journey takes about 10 minutes. The ticket price is about 3 euros. When there is a lot of excitement on the sea, there are no excursions - because of the low vaults of the entrance during a storm, pitching does not allow the boats to enter the cave.

Local residents recommend visiting the Blue Cave before lunch: it is then that the sun's rays illuminate it in such a way that the number of shades of blue is simply impossible to count and the cave looks particularly beautiful.
