Treatment of trichomoniasis in women

Treatment of the disease should be prescribed only by a doctor, the scheme of treatment of trichomoniasis in women is selected individually, depending on how pronounced common and local symptoms are.

How is trichomoniasis treated in women?

The course is quite long - often more than 10 days, the treatment is repeated a month later. Effective treatment of trichomoniasis in women will be when after 7-10 days after its end, not only in the first stroke, but in the subsequent 3 strokes that make 3 menstrual cycles in a row, Trichomonas will not be detected. But before treating trichomoniasis in women, it should be remembered that her sexual partner is also sick or is the carrier of the disease, therefore both partners take the course of treatment. Treatment of trichomoniasis in women applies both local and general.

General treatment of trichomoniasis in women - drugs

To treat the disease, the drugs of choice are the imidazole derivatives. The most famous representative of this group is Metronidazole, but in modern treatment regimens, more effective drugs from this group (for example, Ornidazole, Tinidazole), which various pharmaceutical companies produce under different names, are often used. These drugs are better tolerated by patients, it is possible to reduce the dosage of the active substance and the course of its use, but it is much more expensive than classical Metronidazole.

Metronidazole is administered orally, it is well absorbed and is often recommended in the world protocols for the treatment of trichomoniasis at a dose of 500 mg. Take the drug 2 times a day for 7 days or once for taking 2 g of the drug. Our gynecologists use a more gentle dosage - 2 times less (250 mg) with a course of 10 days. Or, you can take 500 mg 2 times a day for the first day of treatment, a second dose of 250 mg 3 times, and then 4 days 250 mg twice a day.

But when treatment is used for such schemes, trichomoniasis is treated in women and locally, using suppositories with metronidazole vaginally, while simultaneously applying general treatment.

Chronic trichomoniasis in women is recommended to be treated with a soluble form of Metronidazole for intravenous use - with Metragyl. 100 ml of the drug contains 500 mg of Metronidazole, it is administered intravenously for 20 minutes, by drop method 3 times a day, from 5 to 7 days.

But often it is important for both doctors and the patient how to cure trichomoniasis in women without using such large dosages of the drug or by using drugs with fewer side effects. In modern treatment regimens, Metronidazole has recently been replaced with other imidazole derivatives, for example, Tinidazole. Its dose is 500 mg twice a day by a course of 7 days or only once 2 g during the day.

Another imidazole derivative, Ornidazole, is administered 500 mg twice daily for 5 days (often a supplementary vaginal tablet is applied once a day for topical treatment).

If there is a question of how to treat trichomoniasis in pregnant women, Atrikan 250 (tetotrozole) can become a drug of choice on a capsule 2 times a day for 4 days. Other drugs effective for the overall treatment of trichomoniasis - Nitazol, Clion-D, Macmirror, are used not only orally but simultaneously in other dosage forms for topical treatment of the disease.

Local treatment of trichomoniasis

If the treatment of acute forms is well amenable to general treatment, then with the prolonged chronic course of the disease, simultaneously with the general treatment, the same drug is used in forms for vaginal use. When treating Metronidazole, Ornidazole, use vaginal forms (500 mg once a day for 5 days), Clion-D is used as a vaginal tablet - 100 mg for 5 days, Antrikan-250 is used 4 days vaginally twice a day for 250 mg. Local treatment in the form of 2% cream is used with Clindamycin 4 days in a row. Much less frequently in modern treatment schemes, syringing with a solution of protargol or silver nitrate is used.
