Trichomoniasis in women

Among all sexually transmitted diseases, trichomoniasis (trichomoniasis) in women confidently takes a leading position. The cause of trichomoniasis is the simplest microorganism - trichomonas vaginalis (Trichomonas vaginalis).

How is trichomoniasis transmitted?

Transmission of trichomoniasis usually occurs sexually, but cases of domestic infection - through damp items, for example, towels are extremely rare. In most cases, the so-called "household infection" is just a manifestation of a chronic trichomoniasis not detected in time, because the disease can last for a long time without any manifestations. It is impossible to infect them, swimming in a pool or an open reservoir. As it is impossible to catch trichomoniasis with oral or anal sex, as Trichomonas lives in the moist environment of the vagina.

Symptoms of trichomoniasis in women

  1. The first time (from a week to a month), the disease is asymptomatic.
  2. Then white-foaming bleachings appear. Trichomonas vaginalis cause a change in the microflora of the vagina, so the smell of rotten fish appears.
  3. Because of inflammation in the vagina, a burning sensation occurs. If the infection struck the urethra, then there are unpleasant sensations when urinating. There is a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen.

In some cases, the symptoms are poorly expressed, or absent altogether.

Diagnosis and consequences of trichomoniasis in women

To diagnose trichomoniasis, a gynecologist or dermatovenerologist should be examined. The main sign - whitened with the smell of foul fish. When viewed with a vaginal mirror, redness and edema of the cervical mucosa and vagina are found. Finally, the diagnosis is confirmed after the microscopy of secretions from the genital organs.

Trichomonas vaginalis cause in the course of vital activity an imbalance of microflora in the vagina, resulting in the development of vaginitis or infertility.

Trichomoniasis is also dangerous because other pathogens of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) can also be hidden inside the trichomonads, for example, syphilis causing pale treponema. In this case, get rid of the accompanying trichomoniasis diseases, without getting rid of trichomonads, it is not possible, because Trichomonas reliably protects the causative agents of STDs from the effects of medications.

Although trichomoniasis does not have a pathogenic effect on the development of the child, it significantly increases the possibility of premature delivery and outpouring of amniotic fluid.

Treatment of trichomoniasis in women

For the treatment of trichomoniasis, a number of drugs are used: trichopolum, metronidazole, metrogyl, tinidazole. The treatment regimen and the drug should be determined by the doctor, taking into account the general condition of the patient, the presence of concomitant and chronic diseases. With violations of blood coagulability, diseases of the nervous system, as well as in pregnancy and lactation, the use of these drugs is prohibited. If the disease has occurred recently, then the treatment is successful and does not take much time. Chronic forms of trichomoniasis require more thorough and long-term treatment, and therapies also include drugs that promote the growth of the body's defenses - immunomodulators.
