In the Czech town of Vranov nad Diyi there is a reservoir of the same name (Vodní nádrž Vranov). This is a popular tourist place, which is surrounded by beech, hornbeam and oak forests. On the shore of the reservoir there are various cottages and recreation centers .
History of creation
To erect the Vranov reservoir began on the river Dyje in 1930. This was a compulsory measure, as the reservoir during the spill created many problems and flooded large areas of land. There was also a problem associated with increased electricity consumption. The government has made the only correct decision - to build a dam here.
The project involved 2,500 people and 3 joint-stock companies: Cheskomoravskaya, Lanna and Pittel und Brauwevetter. Work continued for more than 3.5 years, the Vranov reservoir began to operate in 1934. It represents the largest hydrotechnical structure of the country, which concentrates in itself large reserves of drinking water.
Description of the pond
The total volume of the Vranov reservoir is 150 million cubic meters. m, and the surface area - 763 hectares. Its length is 30 km, and the depth in some places reaches 46 m. The power plant consists of three Francis turbines with a capacity of 6.3 MW each.
The dam was cast from concrete and has a length of 292 m. Its maximum height is 54 m, the thickness at the base reaches 27 m, and on the ridge it narrows to 6 m. Local residents call the dam "Moravian Adriatic", because the rowing extends from the village of Podgradi- over-Dyji to the town of Vranova nad Diyi.
What to do at Vranov Reservoir?
Every year thousands of tourists come to the water body, who want to have fun. There are several bays in which you can:
- To split a tent by selecting one of the campgrounds or specialized sites for this. By the way, some of them are considered the best in the Czech Republic . You can also stay in one of the chalets.
- Do different kinds of sports . There are places equipped with playgrounds.

Activities on the coast
Every year in July an international sports festival is held here, which is called "Vranov summer". Professional athletes, volleyball players, football players, tennis players, etc. participate in the competition. For participants and spectators all kinds of contests and entertainment programs are provided. The most famous of them are:

- competitions on special dragon boats;
- contest "Miss the Wet T-shirt".

From the center of Vranov nad Diyi, you can get to Vranovskoe Reservoir by bus no. 816 or by car on roads No. 408 or No. 398. The distance is about 15 km.
