Park of Kinsky


Kinsky Park in Prague invites you to a fascinating walk along winding paths surrounded by incredible landscapes. Back in the XIX century the girls were walking along the park with their knights on arm, and to this day this place is popular among Prague residents and guests of the city.

History of the park

In the Smichov district of Prague, on the slopes of the Petrshinsky hill, there is a park of Kinsky. Its history begins in the XII century. Here was a church, and in the district grew vineyards. In 1429 the monastery was destroyed and for a long time there was a vacant lot. In 1799 the land on the southern slope was bought by the widow of Josef Kinsky. Only in 1828, the heir of the Kinsky family undertook the refining of the site. The solution was the creation of a landscape park and the construction of a summer palace .

Works were conducted in 2 stages: arrangement of a site for erection of a residence, and after - registration of a park stepped landscape with a 130-meter height difference. On the territory the paths were broken, ditches were dug to create ponds and an artificial waterfall between them. In 1836 the garden of the Kinskys in Prague was completely ready.

What is interesting to see?

At the beginning of the XX century. The park was sold to the municipal authorities of the city. In 1908, after the restoration was opened to visit. In 1989, the summer palace was damaged by groundwater and the park was closed. In March 2010, the reconstruction of the Kinsky Park was completed. Today the main attractions of the park are:

  1. Summer Palace of Kinsky . A magnificent example of architecture early 18th century. with columns and arched French windows. Today there is a museum dedicated to the life and culture of the Czech Republic .
  2. Church of St. Michael . This is an Orthodox wooden church, built in 1750 in the village of Velikie Luchki in western Ukraine. In 1929, he was transported to the Kinskiy Park.
  3. Plants . Thanks to the hard work of landscape designers and gardeners who have worked continuously for 8 years, water tunnels and gardens and 10 greenhouses with various kinds of exotic plants brought from the tropics have been created.
  4. Lakes . Decorate the garden are two picturesque lakes with banks overgrown with marsh plants. For visitors among the beautiful greenery, cozy benches are placed, on which it is so nice to sit in the coolness and silence.
  5. Artifacts of the park . On the whole territory there are very interesting items from the ethnographic collection of the National Museum :
    • wooden belfry;
    • Baroque crucifixion with prismatic solar clock;
    • sculpture "Fourteen-year" by D. Dvorak;
    • a monument to the actress G. Kvapilova.

Features of visit

The Kinsky Garden in Prague is a great place to relax . Tiled paths are laid throughout the territory, along which it is convenient to walk even with a stroller.
