What is LED TV?

Recently, kinescope TVs have almost vanished into oblivion - they are no longer found in electronics stores, except in some homes. But thin, narrow TVs are not considered a luxury at all and are used everywhere, and new models with advanced technologies are produced every year. Therefore, potential buyers often find it difficult to decide on the final choice of the "blue screen" among the abundance of proposed goods. We'll tell you about LED TV and its advantages.

What is LED technology?

Generally LED is an abbreviation in English, which stands for "light-emitting diode". The phrase is translated into Russian simply - LED. And if we talk about what it means LED TV, then in fact it can be called an advanced LCD TV.

It is known that LC is a technology based on the use of liquid crystal matrix. The latter consists of two plates, between which are placed liquid crystals. When the electric current is applied, they begin to move. But thanks to the lighting lamps on the matrix surface appear dark and light spots. And color filters, located behind the matrix, make a color image on the screen.

Regarding what LED backlight is, then a large number of LEDs are used as a light source (unlike the LCD backlight, where cold cathode fluorescent lamps are used).

Thus, the principle of operation of the LED TV is based on the backlighting of the liquid crystals of the matrix by the LEDs.

Advantages and disadvantages of LED TVs

TVs with LED technology have a number of advantages. Perhaps, the main advantage is the reduced use of electricity: according to experts, up to 40% compared to LCD monitors, in which the backlight is carried out by fluorescent lamps.

In addition, the LED monitor easily fits into any interior - LEDs can create monitors up to 3-3.5 cm thick, because in fact the LEDs are quite tiny. And, this is not the limit. By the way, there is a difference in the arrangement of LEDs in LED TVs, on which the thickness of the matrix depends. In the case when they are evenly placed behind the TV panel, they say from Direct LED. Thanks to this, the screen illumination is carried out evenly. Surely you've heard about extremely thin Edge LED TVs. As for what the Edge LED backlight is, the so-called arrangement of LEDs around the perimeter of the screen with the simultaneous use of a scattering panel. Due to this, the panel width is significantly thinned - less than 3 cm! By the way, in electronics stores often in the designations of the model there is Slim LED - what is it? This marketing designation of TVs with a minimum thickness of the body is 22.3 mm. Usually such models visually lack such a familiar frame around the screen, although in reality it is under the screen glass.

A significant advantage of LED TVs can be called and improved image quality. Through the implementation of the control over clarification and darkening of local areas of the screen black color really turns out deep. The overall color rendition becomes more qualitative, the brightness of the image is higher. By the way, you can watch your favorite TV series from all corners of the room, without being afraid of darkening the image.

The main drawback of LED TVs is its high cost in the ratio of televisions with other types of lighting. However, it is believed that as the technology improves, the production of TVs with LED backlighting will take a mass character, and therefore the price will gradually decline.
