Yaboti


One of the outstanding sights of the Argentine province of Misiones is the Yaboti Biosphere Reserve. Its interesting name from the language of local Indian tribes is literally translated as "turtle". This national reserve was established in 1995 with the support of UNESCO with the aim of preserving and enhancing the natural resources of the region.

Features of the nature conservation area

The total area of ​​the Yaboti Biosphere Reserve is 2366.13 sq.m. km. It includes 119 different zones, among which the natural parks of Mocon and Emerald are especially popular. Yaboti became famous for his landscape diversity. Most of the territory is covered with hills covered with wild jungle. Their height in some places reaches more than 200 m.

Among the evergreen jungle can be seen and full of rivers with picturesque waterfalls. The pride of the biosphere reserve is the waterfall Mokona. It is a unique cascade that runs parallel to the flow of the Uruguay River . Mokona - the only waterfall in the world, flowing into a flooded canyon in the center of the river. The height of this miracle of nature is not more than 20 m.

Flora and fauna

The territory of the Yaboti reserve is striking with a variety of flora and fauna. In the jungle, there are about 100 species of exotic birds, more than 25 species of mammals and 230 species of vertebrates. Bright representatives of the biosphere are laurel trees, pines, lianas and other species. On specially laid trails for travel, tourists can look into the most picturesque corners of the park.

How to get to the bioregriculture?

The Yaboti national park from Buenos Aires can be accessed in two ways. The fastest route passes through RN14 and takes about 12 hours. The route RN14 and BR-285 provide ferry service, and part of it passes through Brazil. This route takes about 14 hours.
