The person who makes repairs in a private apartment starts to think about choosing a floor covering. Fortunately, in modern stores there is a wide range of different coatings, starting with classic (tile, parquet, laminate ), ending with more daring exotic options (jelly 3D floor, cork cover, carpet tile, etc.). However, the most common were and remain linoleum and carpet. These covers are affordable and can easily be found in specialized stores. But before buying, I want to find out what is better than carpet or linoleum, considering the advantages and disadvantages of each coating.
Advantages and disadvantages of the carpet
This coating is a flexible material consisting of a pile and a base. Outwardly it resembles a palace, but is more durable and functional. The main advantages of carpet are:
- good thermal insulation properties;
- Durability (the operational period is 8-15 years);
- versatility (can be used in many rooms);
- a wide range of drawings and textures;
- low flammability.
The main disadvantage of the carpet is a high susceptibility to dirt and difficulty in cleaning. So, if you accidentally pour wine or your child will paint it with paint or markers, then completely removing traces will be problematic. Carpet with high pile as a sponge absorbs all household pollution (sand, animal hair, earth), which involuntarily penetrate from the street into the house. For this coating, you need to purchase a special vacuum cleaner with the function of steam processing.
Carpets are mostly stolen in cold apartments with irregularities in the heating system, as well as in rooms that a priori should radiate warmth and comfort (bedroom, living room, children's room).
Advantages and disadvantages of linoleum
This coating is cheaper, and therefore affordable. As a rule, it is chosen by practical people who value durability and high wear resistance. Linoleum has the following properties:
- the possibility of flooring on the surface with defects;
- the presence of a protective coating, which protects against abrasion;
- dirt easily removed from the surface;
- resistance to the effects of cigarette heat and mineral oils;
- a lot of interesting imitations (for parquet, wood, tile);
- excellent bactericidal properties;
The main disadvantages of this flooring is the ability to press through under heavy furniture - if a sofa or a cabinet needs to be rearranged, then there will be small dents on the floor.
Conclusion
Carpets are bought in order to fill the room with comfort and warmth, and linoleum - so that caring for the floor was as simple and easy as possible. Be prepared that the carpet will quickly become dirty and it can become a hotbed of bacteria, fungus and even mites, and from linoleum there will be a feeling of synth and cold. If for you in principle that cheaper linoleum or carpet, then it's better to stop on linoleum. But in both cases it is desirable to choose high-quality coatings, as this determines the level of your repair and the feeling of comfort in the apartment.
