Chorion on the back wall - what does this mean?

Not all women during the ultrasound during pregnancy, when they are told that the chorion is formed on the back of the uterus, understand what it means. Let's consider this phenomenon in more detail and tell you what kinds of presentation of the chorion exist at all.

What is a chorion?

Before talking about the localization of this anatomical education, we will clarify what is meant by the term "chorion" - a shell that forms part of the so-called placental complex, which plays an important role for the development of the fetus and pregnancy as a whole. As the chorion develops, it can be said that it "grows" into the placenta, which is attached to the uterine wall directly in the area of its bottom or body.

The localization of the chorion along the back wall of the uterus is the norm?

It should be noted that this type of attachment of the chorion to the uterine wall is a classic option and is most common. In this case, the placenta is attached in such a way that partially grasps the lateral walls of the reproductive organ from the inside.

The location of the chorion along the posterior wall of the uterus is normal and does not cause doctors any fear. It must be said that the place of attachment of this anatomical formation to the uterine wall has a direct effect on such a parameter as the growth of the abdomen in pregnant women.

So, if the attachment of the chorion occurs along the back wall, the increase in the size of the abdomen is slow. It is in such cases that people around and close to a pregnant woman may not even know about her situation, if she does not report it herself.

Can the position of the placenta change during pregnancy?

It is worth noting that in obstetrics there is such a thing as "migration of the placenta". So if it is located on the front wall, then it is normal, after 1-2 weeks its upward shift is observed. This is normal.

Fear of doctors causes such a phenomenon, when the chorion moves to the lower part of the uterus and is located in it in such a way that it blocks partially or completely the entrance to the uterine neck, the so-called internal shed. This arrangement of the placenta is dangerous, because it can lead to the development of bleeding and the termination of pregnancy in general. To prevent this, such pregnant women are usually placed in a hospital. Such measures allow to avoid negative consequences, in time to react to the changed condition of the pregnant woman, and thereby prevent spontaneous abortion.
