Church of Agia-Phanereni

The church of Agia-Phanereni is located in the center of Larnaka and is considered one of the most revered Orthodox churches in the city. Despite the fact that this building is relatively new, many interesting historical facts are associated with it. About them, and also about many other things we will tell below.

History and modernity

Agia-Phanereni in Cyprus was built on the site where, according to tradition, the secret shelter of Christians was located, and at the same time their temple. Gradually, this cave became a place of pilgrimage and people started talking about the fact that there are real miracles happening there. Now, in fact, this is a whole complex of buildings, consisting of two operating temples. One of them, the old one, was built in the 20th century on the site of a ruined Byzantine building. Since it was extremely popular with tourists and pilgrims, the city authorities decided to build one next to it. So in 2006 a new church appeared, located just a few dozen meters from the old one.

Science and faith

The popularity of this place is connected with many factors. For example, pilgrims and believers here are attracted by faith in miracles. They say that in the temple you can heal from many diseases only by praying. And if you go around the church several times and make a number of actions, you can permanently get rid of the headache.

Tourists come here most often to admire the peculiarities of architecture. Moreover, not so long ago not far from the church ancient burial places of the Phoenician period were discovered. Presumably they are associated with burials discovered under the church of Agia-Phanereni. Now it is planned to create an underground museum.
