Clavulanic acid

Clavulanic acid is a special substance that actively interacts with penicillinases and inactivates them. It can be seen in the composition of most combined potent drugs. In addition, clavulanic acid can be used in parallel with beta-lactam antibiotics.

The mechanism of action of clavulanic acid

Experts attribute clavulanic acid to the metabolism. This substance is capable of producing a powerful antimicrobial effect. The drugs containing clavulanic acid are indicated for use in various inflammatory diseases caused by harmful viruses and bacteria.

The structure of molecules of clavulanic acid is similar to antibiotics of the penicillin series. That is why their combination from the pharmacological point of view is considered particularly successful. The main difference is that in the acid instead of thiazolidine there is an oxazolidine ring. But the compatibility of substances is in no way affected.

Getting into the body, clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase - bacterial enzymes, the appearance of which contributes to the vital activity of harmful microorganisms. In general, the principle of the action of clavulanic acid is simple: through the protective shell, it penetrates into the cells of bacteria and "turns off" the enzymes located inside. Thus, the substance does not allow the viruses and bacteria to multiply.

As practice has shown, after the suppression, the reduction of beta-lactamase is considered almost impossible. Due to this pathogenic microorganisms not only can not develop, but also lose the opportunity to develop resistance to the antibiotic that suppresses them.

The effectiveness of the substance is quite high. Even those strains of bacteria and viruses that have managed to develop immunity against Amoxicillin and Ampicillin are destroyed by the action of clavulanic acid. That is, the spectrum of action of combined drugs is much broader than that of conventional antibiotics.

Basically, drugs with clavulinic acid are taken orally, but in some cases, their intravenous administration is considered more effective. As such, there are no contraindications for the remedy, it is not suitable only for patients with individual intolerance. In particularly difficult cases, clavulic acid in combination with Amoxicillin and Ticarcillin can be taken even by pregnant women.

Augmentin - Amoxicillin with clavulanic acid

This is one of the best-known combination antibiotics. The drug is shown with such diagnoses:

Dosage of Augmentin for each patient is selected individually, depending on the form and complexity of the disease, the general condition of the patient, his age, concomitant diagnoses. Treatment with the drug should last no less than five, but not more than fourteen days.

Flemoxin with clavulanic acid

This is another well-known combination, called Flemoklav. A good antibacterial agent costs a little more than the original Flemoxin, but its price is fully justified by its effectiveness.

A tool is used to treat various inflammatory processes:

Flemoklav is released in the form of soluble tablets, due to which its effectiveness rises even more.
