All indoor plants need a transplant from time to time. Often, for this is bought the most common pot, but before planting a plant in it, we will decorate it with the help of craquelure and decoupage. The technique of craquelure is the artificial aging of things, this effect is achieved due to cracks on the top layer of paint. In the master class for beginners, we will do craquelure with improvised means with our own hands.
Craquelure for Beginners
To decorate the pot in the technique of craquelure, we used this:
- clay pots for flowers;
- priming;
- Acrylic colors - purple-red, beige and dark green;
- a set of quality brushes;
- Crackles lacquer;
- adhesive for decoupage;
- decoupage map or a picture on thin paper;
- decoupage varnish.
Having prepared everything you need, let's get to work.
How to make craquelure?
Let's proceed to decorating pots in the one-step craquelure technique with our own hands:
- First of all, we clean our pots of dust and dirt. Next, we begin to prepare our blanks for painting - we cover the surface with a thin layer of soil. This will help us apply the paint evenly, and also significantly reduce its consumption.
- Now take the purple-red paint and paint the first pot.
- Next we have to apply varnish for craquelure. Let's wait until the paint dries well and put it in a thin layer. For this we need a quality flat brush.
- Now we should wait 30 minutes until the crackle is completely dry. After that, we put a layer of beige paint.
- Now let the product dry completely. Although after 15 minutes the surface will no longer be sticky, the full effect of the Craquelure technique will be achieved only after 24 hours. After a day we see here such cracks on the surface of the pot, this is the effect of craquelure.
- The surface looks as if it is already covered with a layer of varnish, therefore, it is not necessary to open it with varnish.
- The same will be done with a large pot, just as the main, lower layer, we'll take a dark green paint.
- The effect of the Craquelure technique we have done, you can stop at this. But we will still continue decorating our pots using elements of decoupage. We will engage in a large pot.
- At this point we will need a painting tape. With its help, we select the faces for painting, so that the colored stripes are even. Our pot has an octagonal shape.
- Now we need to apply a dark green paint, which we used for the lower layer of craquelure. Carefully we paint the space between the stripes of the painting tape.
- Then patiently wait until the paint is completely dry, then gently remove the paint tape from the surface of the pot. If we hurry, without waiting for complete drying, we can spoil all the beauty.
- And now we will deal directly with decoupage. We will cut out a fragment of the size we need from the decoupage map. Lightly wet the paper, then using a glue for decoupage gently paste the picture.
- Then we wait, when our pasted drawing properly will dry up, and we cover its surface with a transparent varnish for decoupage.
- Then you can varnish the entire surface of the pot to give your masterpiece even more glitter, as well as additional protection.
On this, the decoration of the pot in the technique of craquelure can be completed, or it can be covered in some places with a layer of sparkles, broken glass and other improvised means, in a word, we realize everything your imagination can do. After letting dry the product, we plant a favorite flower in it and enjoy the result of our creativity.
