Curtains for kitchen by own hands

The design of curtains often becomes decisive in the interior of the kitchen. We offer you a master class, which tells in detail how to sew curtains for the kitchen. You need two pieces of fabric, one of which should be translucent and light, perhaps with a soft pattern, and the other, on the contrary, bright - later it will turn into a lambrequin.

1. It is better to start the work with the processing of the seams, namely sew the side edges of the cloths to the fold (an inexperienced seamstress can be ironed or swept future seams, whereas experienced craftsmen can turn the fabric straight while sewing). The lower edge of the canvas must be trimmed with an oblique bake corresponding to the tone of the lambrequin cloth.

2. Take the cloth for the main curtain, bend the upper edge and we add to it a special tape used for the assembly of the curtains. We pull it and hang the finished curtain on the cornice.

3. For lambrequin you need a cut of bright fabric, the dimensions of which are 150x150 cm. Cut two pieces of 25 cm wide, they will be used for sewing the central part of the lambrequin. The obtained strips are sewn along the center and we lay uniform folds on them in such a way that the total length of the finished part is 90 cm. Note that the folds should be laid from the edges to the center in such a way that in the middle of the lambrequin they meet and hide the seam under them.

4. We will engage laterally. To do this, the remaining piece of fabric with a size of 150x100 cm pre-mark. We mark 70 cm on one side and 30 cm on the other. We fold the fabric according to the marks and cut it into two parts, which should be conditionally diagonal with sides of 30 and 70 cm each.

5. Then we lay uniform folds in the desired direction with the expectation that the finished part of the lambrequin has a width of 60 cm.

6. Sew the lateral parts of the lambrequin with the central (pay attention to the direction and thickness of the folds, it is important that the assembled structure looked harmonious).

7. Obtained lambrequin will have a width of 210 cm, all edges of it must be trimmed with an oblique bake, and on the upper edge, attach a satin ribbon from the wrong side. This step will achieve the optimum density of the fastening strip to the cornice.

For calculations, you should remember that you define the length of the main curtain yourself, and the width of the fabric should be calculated taking into account the fact that a finished crease 7 cm long requires 21 cm of fabric to lay it. If you prefer precise folds, then choose the material more tightly and make the folds deeper.

The finished curtain will only be carefully ironed and hung on the kitchen cornice. A little trick: to ensure that long seams do not wrinkle, they need to iron and immediately cool the seams with a piece of glass.
