Dalmatians: description of the breed

The history of the Dalmatian breed is still vague, and there is no precise definition of where these dogs came from and what their way of becoming was. To date, there are two fundamentally different opinions about the origin of the Dalmatians. Some researchers believe that their homeland is one of the historical provinces of Yugoslavia, namely Dalmatia. Others argue that the Dalmatian dog breed came to us from India. Whatever it was, today there is an opportunity to purchase and keep these beautiful animals almost everywhere.


General characteristics of the Dalmatian breed

This strong, muscular and very active creature has a distinctive and characteristic characteristic color. All proportions of the body are balanced and have a natural grace. The outlines of the Dalmatian's silhouette are symmetrical, devoid of clumsiness and rudeness. The animal is extremely hardy and has the ability to move quickly.

Dalmatian breed standards

In order to acquire a true representative of the breed you need to familiarize yourself and arm yourself with the approved standards of the animal's appearance. It will not be superfluous to use the help of an experienced breeder. So, what you should pay attention to:

  1. Quite a long head.
  2. The skull is flat, wide between the ears, without wrinkles.
  3. Black-spotted Dalmatian puppies should always have black nose. In dogs with brown spots, it is brown.
  4. Jaws must be strong and have a clear knife-like bite.
  5. Eyes wide set, small and shiny. The look is intelligent and cautious.
  6. Highly planted ears are of medium size and firmly pressed to the head.
  7. The neck has a beautiful bend, quite long.
  8. The back is smooth and strong, the stomach is picked up, the loin is round and muscular.
  9. The tail never stands vertically, rather long and it is preferable that it should also be spotted.
  10. The fore and hind legs are slender, muscular, well developed.
  11. The coat is stiff and short. In healthy animals, it glosses and shines, extremely thick.

A full description of the Dalmatian breed is impossible without mentioning its color. The basic color of the coat is pure white. The spots may be black or spotted brown, but must necessarily have clearly defined contours and be evenly distributed across the trunk. The height of males can not exceed 61 cm, the female - 59 cm. The maximum permissible weight of an adult is 32 kg.
