Diseases of sweet cherry

Juicy and sweet cherries are loved by almost all adults and children. And, of course, every owner of the infield would like to have his own cherry tree. But, unfortunately, to grow a cherry - the task is quite complicated, because it can be affected by a huge number of diseases and pests. The main diseases and pests of sweet cherries will be discussed in our article.

Diseases of the sweet cherry and their treatment

What diseases should the owner of the cherry orchard fear?

  1. Most often, the sweet cherry suffers from such an affliction as coccomicosis . It appears as small (up to 3 mm) brown spots, at first single, and then merging into one large spot. On the underside of the affected leaf, a characteristic plaque, white or pink, appears. As a result of the disease leaves from the tree begin to crumble much earlier than the time, because of what it goes into wintering weakened and may even die. The causative agent of coccomicosis is hibernated on fallen leaves, through which further infection occurs.
  2. Another serious disease of the sweet cherry is bacterial cancer of stone fruits . The bacterial cancer affects all the tissues of the tree, and leads to its complete or partial death. With the transient form of cancer, even a healthy young tree can completely dry up in a few days. When the form is chronic, the tree shrinks for several years. The causative agent of bacterial cancer enters the tissues of the tree through cracks on the cortex, transported from a diseased plant to a healthy one by the wind, with rainwater or through a garden tool.
  3. It is often enough to affect the sweet cherry and klyasterosporiosis . This disease manifests itself in the form of brownish rounded spots on the leaves and dry, non-rotting stains on the berries. The berries that are affected by klysterosporiosis stop their growth and lose their taste. The causative agent of this disease hibernates as a mycelium and begins to grow actively in early spring, affecting all new plants.

Methods of combating diseases of sweet cherry

The fight against diseases of the sweet cherry is as follows:

  1. In autumn, during preparation for wintering, it is necessary to thoroughly clean from the tree all the affected areas: cut the dried branches, remove the damaged areas of the bark. Clearing bark, branches and fallen leaves must be carefully collected and burned, and the ground under the tree - to dig.
  2. In spring, the trunks of trees are whitewashed with the addition of copper sulfate.
  3. If the drying branches are found on the young cherry, they should be cut as soon as possible, retreating from the affected area 8-10 cm down. Sections of branches immediately close the garden putty.
  4. The garden tool for pruning trees must be disinfected with 5% formalin. A piece of land after uprooting the dead from cancer trees should be decontaminated, scattering on its surface of chlorine lime in an amount of 150 grams per m & sup2. After the disinfection, the land is plowed on site or digged.
  5. If necessary, in the early spring, 1% DNOC is sprayed against wintering pathogens.

Pests of the sweet cherry and the fight against them

In addition to many diseases, cherries suffer from various pests . One of them is the cherry sawfly, the larvae of which destroy the leaves of the sweet cherry. Another pest - cherry elephant, eats leaves, fruits and cherry blossoms. The cherry fly becomes the cause of the wormness of the sweet cherry, and the fruit agriilius damages the bark of the trees. Fight pests can be timely spraying trees with Bordeaux liquid and digging the earth around them. For the rescue of damaged trees, we also add toxic chemicals: thiophenite, fostiol, Bi-58, etc.
