How to sew a blanket cover?

It often happens that it is difficult to buy bedding in a store or internet, suitable for the size and color, and just as you need. The linen turns out to be long, but narrow, then wide, but too short. It happens that fit pillowcases, and a sheet or duvet cover, in general it is not known from which set. In all such non-standard cases it will be much easier to buy fabric and sew linen yourself. If you are one of those who have encountered the described problem, then we will tell you how to properly sew a Duvet Cover with your own hands, so that it will go exactly to your blanket.

We sew a standard duvet cover

Sewing a duvet cover with your own hands is actually quite simple. It is enough only to be familiar with certain subtleties.

  1. First of all, we, of course, measure our blanket. You need to know the exact length and width. To these dimensions, add 4-5 cm for the allowances on the seams and you can now safely buy these fabrics by these measures.
  2. As you know, almost all the material after the first wash can slightly change and sit down. Therefore, before embarking on the very sewing, wash the purchased piece and iron it.

Let's start sewing. There may be several options.

Option number 1.

  1. This method is the simplest and uncomplicated. We mark on the fabric two rectangles in size corresponding to the blanket, taking into account the allowances, and carefully cut them out.
  2. Both parts are processed separately. For this, each edge is folded twice in half a centimeter and we spread it on the typewriter. Of course, the ideal option is the presence of an overlock, but without it it also works great.
  3. We stack processed parts on each other face and sew them together. Just do not forget that you need to leave a hole in order to fill a blanket through it. And it does not matter on which side you leave it. Now a little trick for the hostesses of large double blankets. Some deliberately leave small, not threaded holes at the edges of the blanket, in order to then straighten the blanket through them.
  4. The edges of all non-pierced holes must be processed and swept, and then stitched with an "attachment seam" (forwards and backwards). For reliability, use velcro tape or the simplest ribbon with buttons.
  5. After these simple steps, you can proceed to the process of bed fixing.

Option number 2.

  1. Now tell you how to sew your own hands a classic children's duvet cover. Make a pattern using our formula. And keep in mind that the cutout can be of any shape you like. The sizes at us are specified standard.
  2. We process the cutout, carrying out the double folding we already know. At the edge of sewing a beautiful braid, which can be safely and very successfully replaced with a lace ribbon or a vending bake. To do this, fold it in half, inside out and iron it, turning the necessary places. After that you need to sweep everything and sew it.
  3. After the cutout has been completely processed, go to the tailoring of the quilt. To do this, we add the entire structure by the inside out and sew the side parts. Naturally, the previously cut out cutout should not be touched.
  4. We turn and fold the quilt cover so that the slot is in the middle. We sew the top and bottom of the blanket, not forgetting to process the edges with a zigzag or overlock.
  5. All that's left is just to turn out the finished duvet cover and you can put it on a baby blanket.

That's all simple wisdom. By the way, I would like to note that sewing bed linen will be much cheaper on its own than buying it already ready in the store.

In addition, you can sew with your own hands and a pillowcase and a blanket .
