Lavaetera is a perennial

Lavaetera is a perennial (hathma, "garden rose") belongs to the family of mallow. The flower of the lava is a rather tall lush bush decorated with a lot of large bright yellow, pink, purple or white flowers. The bush of the blooming laveter is similar to all the usual rural mallow, but it blooms more abundantly and for a long time.

Lavatera: planting and care

Cultivation of the lavatory does not require considerable labor, since the plant is unpretentious and grows well on any soils, developing both in well-lit areas and in shaded areas. But it should be noted that the flowers growing on slightly fertilized soil have a more saturated color and sturdy stems. Blooms lavatera from early summer until late autumn. Experienced gardeners recommend tying long stems so that they do not break in a strong wind.

Cultivation of the lava is made from seeds. Seeds are harvested from dried seed boxes formed at the site of the peduncle. Preserve collected seeds better in a linen pouch or paper bag in a relatively dry place. In areas with a warmer climate, planting material is sown on a prepared plot in April or early May. In regions with cold weather, seedlings are sprouted from seeds sown in March in boxes exposed on a warm verandah or window sills, and in May they are transplanted into open ground. Plants are planted at a distance of 15-30 cm, so that later they do not have to be thinned. Sprinkling of sprouts is carried out once a week, in order not to allow waterlogging of the soil. To blossom the lava is long, and new buds are formed, it is necessary to remove the faded flowers. Seeds of lava can be planted for the winter, but in autumn the plant gives self-seeding, so there is no need to especially care about future plantings. In this case, landing lavas do not require additional shelter, since they perfectly tolerate both frost and drought.

Varieties of the lava

In a temperate climate, the following varieties are preferred:

Lauter's Thuringian

The perennial plant has an erect stem up to two meters high with a heart-shaped form of leaves and flowers with dark pink flowers more than 5 cm in diameter located in the axils of the leaves.

Silver Cap

Lavatera variety Silver Cap has flowers of bright pink and silver-lilac flowers.

Beautiful girl

For this variety, lavers are characterized by abundant flowering. The developed bush is entirely strewn with inflorescences of pink, rich red or white flowers.

Pink Beauty

A tall plant with large bright pink crowns, covered with a pattern of purple veins and a dark central part.

Mont Blanc

The plant is covered with white flowers with pronounced relief veins.

Lavatera in the garden is used in both single and group plantings. Often high flowers are planted around trees or in front of large shrubs. Perhaps an interesting solution when using the lava of different varieties, planted on the principle of a gradual transition of colors: from snow-white to pink, dark pink and to purple hues. Lavaetera looks beautiful with other flowering plants, especially blue-violet colors: iris , delphinium , sage, and white and pink lansters. An unpretentious plant in the best way will serve to decorate both the territory of country houses and suburban areas, and lawns and flowerbeds in parks, sanatoria, rest homes.

From the cut lava, you can make mono-bouquets or complement it with floral compositions from other plants, and the flowers keep a fresh look for a long time.
