Myositis - symptoms

Myositis is a group of diseases that is characterized by inflammation of the muscle tissue. Today we will consider the causes and factors that provoke the development of the disease, the types and signs of myositis.

Classification of the disease

In terms of the vastness of the disease , local myositis is distinguished (small, limited areas of muscles are inflamed), diffuse myositis (quite extensive areas of muscles are affected) and polymyositis (large areas of muscles of various groups are inflamed).

By the nature of the flow there is an acute and chronic form of the disease.

Causes of myositis

Acute inflammatory processes in the body cause a sharp form of the aforementioned disease. So, the reason can be osteomyelitis, septicopyemia, coccal bacteria, anaerobic microorganisms, pneumococci. Therefore, with myositis, a high body temperature is often observed. In the muscles there are abscesses, as a result of which some zones of muscle tissue become necrotic and inflammation passes to fatty tissues.

One of the most common factors that cause myositis, are also infections. In addition to syphilis, typhoid and brucellosis, the disease is provoked even by the usual flu.

In addition, almost every case of an autoimmune disease (lupus, diffuse goiter, scleroderma) is accompanied by the development of myositis.

Do not forget about the parasitic effect on the onset of the disease. Cysticercosis, echinococcosis and trichinosis in the earliest stages contribute to inflammatory processes in the muscle tissues.

The reasons for the development of myositis also include:

Symptoms of myositis of the neck

The most frequent case of local myositis is cervical myositis, in which the muscles of the neck and shoulder joints, usually on the one hand, become inflamed. Symptoms of myositis of the neck - this is a dull, aching pain in the neck, surrendering in the shoulder. Also, the echoes of the pain syndrome can be felt in the back of the head, the arm and the area between the shoulder blades. It is difficult for the patient to turn his head in the direction where the muscles are inflamed. This is due to the strong stretching of the tissues and the load on the tendon. In the morning, after awakening, there is edema of the muscular tissues, at this time the spasms also increase, the head hurts. Cervical myositis can exhibit symptoms such as fever and difficulty swallowing.

Symptoms of myositis of the muscles of the back

Again, the main sign of the disease is a dull aching pain, which is amplified by palpation, a change in the position of the body, stretching of the muscles. When inflammation of the muscles of the back, they seem strained, dense. In addition, when feeling, you can see small formations in the muscles, similar to nodules. Pain has a pronounced localized character, is felt stronger on one side than on the other.

In inflammation of the upper groups of dorsal muscles, pain syndrome extends to the extremities, in particular, the shoulder and elbow joints begin to ache, some limited movements are possible. There are difficulties with lifting even non-heavy objects, in acute form myositis does not allow holding even a tea mug in his hand.

If the lower parts of the back and lower back are affected, the pain gives to the legs, hips and pelvic region. In addition, there are not too severe pain in the location of the kidneys and liver. There is a strong restriction of the mobility of the spine, it is difficult for the patient to turn his body, sit down, go to bed and go up. With diffuse myositis, the pain syndrome is felt in the legs, which greatly impedes movement.
