Old Mayak Gardskagaviti

Charming Iceland is one of the most unusual countries in the world. This amazing land is very popular with travelers, thanks to its magical nature and many interesting sights . Just 60 kilometers from the capital of the state of Reykjavik , there is a small town Gardyu, among the most beautiful places of which, the old lighthouse Gardaskagaviti deserves special attention.

Features of the lighthouse

The old lighthouse of Gardaskagaviti is located in the northwestern part of the Reykjanes peninsula. It was built in the late XIX century, or rather in 1897. This low structure (11.4 m) today is considered the main attraction of Gardur and has an important historical significance for the entire region.

From 1962 to 1978, the lighthouse was used as an observatory for observation and study of birds. Despite the fact that the center itself has been closed for a long time, the main entertainment of tourists still remains today's blindwatching: hundreds of professional photographers and simple lovers dream to take pictures of rare species of birds living here daily on the viewing platform.

After walking outdoors and getting to know the local beauties, be sure to visit the museum, which stores unique things raised from sunken ships, and relax in a cafe serving delicious dishes and drinks of national cuisine.
