Parkinson's disease - treatment

Parkinson's disease is a chronic disease of the nervous system, which is characteristic, mainly, for the elderly. It is caused by the death of brain cells and certain parts of the nervous system. Parkinson's disease is characterized by motor disorders: tremor (rhythmic regular involuntary movements), hypokinesia (decreased motor activity), muscle rigidity (muscle numbness), postural instability (imbalance, walking disorder), and autonomic and psychiatric disorders.

How to treat Parkinson's disease?

Today, when talking about the treatment of Parkinson's disease, measures aimed at improving the quality of life, or symptomatic treatment, should be implied. At the moment, a medicine or method that completely relieved a person of this disease has not yet been found. It is worth knowing that timely and correctly selected treatment helps to preserve professional and household activities for a long time, reducing the manifestations of the disease. In brief, we will consider new, modern ways of treating Parkinson's disease.

Preparations for the treatment of Parkinson's disease

The choice of the drug and the choice of dosage in each case is carried out only by a specialist - neuropathologist or psychiatrist. The prescribed drugs should be taken for a lifetime, combining drug therapy with a special diet and exercise therapy.

Groups of medicines for the treatment of Parkinson's disease:

  1. Levodopa - the drug in the body turns into dofmin - a substance whose deficiency is one of the causes of the disease; helps to significantly reduce hypokinesia and rigidity.
  2. Dopamine agonists (bromocriptine, lizuride, cabergoline, pergolide, ropinirole, pramipexole) eliminate the signs of a deficiency of dopaminergic neurotransmission due to the imitation of dopamine.
  3. MAO-B and COMT inhibitors (selegiline, entacapone, tolcapone) - increase the content of dopamine and the inhibition of its catabolism.
  4. Inhibitors of NEZD (reverse neuronal capture of dopamine): amantadine, gludananth - are similar in effect to levodopa.
  5. Central cholinoblockers (atropine, scopolamine, trihexyphenidyl, triperidene, biperiden, tropacin, ethenal, didepyl and dinezine) restore the neurotransmitter balance in the central nervous system, weaken tremor and vegetative disorders.

Surgical treatment of Parkinson's disease

This method is divided into two types:

Treatment of Parkinson's disease with stem cells

This is one of the newest methods of treating Parkinson's disease. It is based on transplantation into the brain of neurons obtained as a result of differentiation (change in function) of stem cells. These cells are called to replace the dead. However, this method is still at the stage of clinical trials.

Folk methods of treatment of Parkinson's disease

There are also many methods of alternative medicine aimed at improving the condition of the disease - mainly to reduce tremor and stiffness of movements.

Let us consider only some of them:

  1. Hydrogen peroxide . Dilute a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide in a glass of water and bury in the nose of 2.5 ml in each nostril daily.
  2. Tincture of belladonna . Dry belladonna root (the plant must be at least 3 years old) in the amount of 10 g pour 200 ml of vodka and insist 1 - 2 weeks. Take 5 to 10 drops a day, starting gradually with a single drop.
  3. Broth of gooseberry goose and hemlock . Shredded plant roots, taken 2 tablespoons, pour a liter of water, bring to a boil and insist for 8 hours. Take a decoction of 100 grams four times a day before meals.
