Peat for the garden - good

The fact that peat can be used to fertilize beds, it is known today even the most "green" truck farmers. And often they send a lot of money for the purchase of this product in the hope of getting a noble harvest afterwards. But for the most part this idea does not justify itself, because peat is useful for plants, it is not enough just to scatter it around the garden. About whether peat is useful for land in the garden and how to properly use it as a fertilizer, we'll talk today.

Types of peat for the garden

First, let's look at what peat is and where it comes from. Peat is nothing more than organic remains (plants, animals) rotted and compressed in conditions of high humidity and minimal access to oxygen. In nature, peat is formed in marshes, where plants and animal remains layer by layer without intermixing year after year and form a dense substance. Depending on the layer and degree of "readiness", there are three types of peat:

Is peat useful for the garden?

It would seem that a substance completely consisting of rotted organic matter should be a real storehouse of useful substances and trace elements, and therefore, it is of great benefit to all plants. In fact, peat contains a fairly large amount of nitrogen, which, unfortunately, is hardly digested by plants. Therefore, peat should not be sprinkled with pure peat - there will be practically no use. But in a mixture with mineral fertilizers or other organic peat will become a real "magic pill" for the garden. And all thanks to its aerated porous structure, which will help to make the soil on the site more light and breathable, and also will keep in it all the "utility" of fertilizers.

Peat is also useful in cases where it is necessary to increase the level of acidity in the area. In addition, due to its composition, peat also possesses certain antiseptic properties, helping gardeners to fight the harmful microflora of the soil. As we can see, there is an essential use for peat from peat. But only when the type of peat and the way it is used are correctly chosen. So, to prepare fertilizers for carrying out fertilizing should be based on lowland or transitional peat. And its top variety can be used for mulching the near-trunk circles of bushes and trees, as well as sheltering perennial plants for the winter.
