In psychology, a term such as conflict is used to describe one of the varieties of interactions between people. It allows you to reflect the contradictions that arise during communication and contact, to show tension in relations, to reveal the motives and interests of people.

The psychology of conflict and ways to resolve it

There are several strategies that are based on the actions of opponents during conflict situations. They differ in the principle of action and result.

Psychology of conflict resolution:

  1. Rivalry . In this case, opponents impose their own opinion and the decision of the situation. Use this option if the proposed opinion is constructive or the result obtained is beneficial for a large group of people. Usually rivalry is used in situations where there is no time for lengthy discussions or there is a high probability of deplorable consequences.
  2. Compromise . This scenario is used when the parties to the conflict are ready to make partial concessions, for example, to drop some of their demands and recognize certain claims of the other party. In psychology it is stated that conflicts at work, the family and in other collectives are resolved by compromises in the case when there is an understanding that the rival has practically the same opportunities or they have mutually exclusive interests. Another person makes a compromise when there is a risk of losing everything that is.
  3. Assignments . In this case, one of the opponents voluntarily abandons his own position. It can be motivated by different motives, for example, comprehension of their wrongness, the desire to preserve relations, significant damage to the conflict, or the frivolous nature of the problem. The parties to conflicts make concessions when there is pressure from a third party.
  4. Care . This option is chosen by the participants in the conflict when they want to get out of the situation with minimal losses. In this case, it is better to talk not about the decision, but about the extinction of the conflict.
