Surgery to correct the septum of the nose

The operation to correct the septum of the nose is called septoplasty of the nose. The procedure involves surgical intervention. Only due to septoplasty can you get rid of all the symptoms that accompany the curvature of the nasal septum. And all nasal sprays and other procedures can only bring temporary relief.

Indications for an operation to correct the curvature of the septum of the nose

To prescribe the septoplasty of the nose, only the desire of the patient can be sufficient. Doctors also recommend that the procedure be carried out in the presence of such problems and complaints:

  1. Chronic rhinitis or sinusitis. Before the operation, the cause of frequent inflammations of the mucosa is necessarily determined. If the diseases are vasomotor, in addition to septoplasty, vasotomy is also performed. This procedure consists in crossing small vessels and allows to reduce blood filling and mucosal edema.
  2. Frequent nasal bleeding. The operation is necessary in those cases when the cause of bleeding is the curvature of the nasal septum.
  3. Headaches, sinusitis. Sometimes they can appear due to the deformation of the partitions in the nose.
  4. Difficulty breathing. Operative intervention is indicated if breathing is difficult through one or both nostrils.

Also, the operation is prescribed if the conservative methods of treatment are ineffective.

In those cases where, in addition to deforming the nasal septum of a person, the cosmetic defect also disturbs, in parallel with septoplasty, it is possible to perform an operation to correct the back of the nose, for example.

Submucosal, endoscopic and laser surgery for correcting the septum of the nose

There are three main methods. Each of them has its pros and cons. But it is necessary to choose in which way it is necessary to correct the nasal septum in each case separately:

  1. Submucosal resection. It consists in the removal of cartilage, parts of bones, opener - in general, everything that can interfere with normal nasal breathing. This operation can be carried out under both general and local anesthesia. It does not last long - from 30 to 45 minutes. To improve the accuracy of the procedure, endovideo equipment is used. Submucosal resection is considered the most radical. If it passes with irregularities, the risk of complications in the form of mucosal edema or crust formation in the nose is very high.
  2. Endoscopic septoplasty. A more gentle procedure, which can be carried out even when the deformations are in the deep sections. During this operation, cartilage tissues are removed at a minimum. Endoscopic septoplasty can correct all deformities. The essence of the method is the introduction of a thin tube - the endoscope - into the nose with a camera that translates all the actions taking place inside. Despite the fact that it seems more complicated, the endoscopic operation to correct the septum of the nose lasts about as long as the submucosa.
  3. Laser correction. This is the newest method of septoplasty. It makes it possible to correct deformations with high accuracy. At the same time, blood loss during the procedure is minimal. It is most rational to use laser septoplasty in uncomplicated cases, when the curvature is not expressed very clearly. In this case, the method will have many advantages. First, the operation is completed in a quarter of an hour. Secondly, to conduct it, you do not need to go to hospital. Thirdly, laser correction guarantees minimal traumatism.

To avoid the unpleasant consequences of surgery to correct the septum on the nose:

  1. Week after the procedure you can not blow your nose.
  2. Do not take Aspirin and other drugs that reduce blood clotting.
  3. For a month after septoplasty, it is not recommended to wear glasses.
