The Tolminka River

Not far from the city of Tolmin is the Tolminka river, in the western part of Slovenia . This is a popular place among tourists who travel the Triglav national park . On its length it has a mark below 180 m above sea level, this is the lowest place in Slovenia.

What is interesting about the Tolminka River?

The descents to the river are very steep, so you need to wear comfortable shoes and it is better not to travel with children. Although, from the entrance to the park to the river you need to move three kilometers, but this way is worth it. The route will take about 2 hours on the park's equipped tracks, everywhere there are information signs.

At first you can see the confluence of the Tolminka River with the Zadlashnica River, this place is very beautiful and there is an opportunity for active pastime in nature. On the way to the water there are huge boulders that impede the calm movement of the river, and water accelerates its course. Striking against stones, splashes are formed, and this brings great pleasure to visitors. Bridges rise above the river, from where you can observe this action. Among them you can note the Devil's Bridge - a combination of wooden bridges that pass through deep gorges. The lower bridge was built in 1907 and was the only option that allows crossing this rapid river. After the bridge there is a road that goes to the left and leads to a thermal spring. It is at the base of the rock, at this point the temperature rises to 20 ° C, which is in contrast to the overall temperature of the river, which is kept at 9 ° C.

Where there is a merger of two rivers, a suspension bridge is tightened, a very unreliable structure where you need to walk gently. Then you need to move even higher, where there is a new bridge, adapted for car traffic. The opening of this bridge occurred in 1966. On this road, climbing a bit into the mountains, is the cave Zadlaška. It is not equipped for visits, but you can be like it yourself, taking a flashlight with you.

In this cave flows the waters of another Soča river, which for thousands of years have created their own passages and formed as many as 4 stone halls. After such a way you can feel tired, but the journey will be very entertaining. From the height of the mountain near the town of Gorizia, you can pay attention to an interesting bridge, which looks like an 85-meter arch connecting two hewn stones. Today, this bridge is among the largest bridge structures in the world.
