Volume of the bladder

The volume of such an organ as the bladder has the property of changing, due to the possibility of stretching its walls. As you know, it is located in a small basin, and is a reservoir for urine, which in small portions enters it almost every 3-4 minutes.

What is the volume of the bladder in an adult?

According to the anatomical features of this body, it can hold about 200-400 ml. However, it should be noted that in some people, due to the individual features of the structure of the genitourinary organs, the bubble can accumulate up to 1 liter of urine.

It must be said that the volume of the bladder in children, in particular, in a newborn, is 50-80 ml. As the body grows, this organ also increases.

How is the determination of the volume of the bladder?

In calculating such a parameter, the data obtained as a result of ultrasound can be used, as well as special mathematical formulas.

In the latter case, the bladder is taken for the cylinder and its volume is calculated, based on this. Such calculations are approximate. The findings are used to determine the retention of urine or, in other words, the residual volume in the bladder. Normally, it should not exceed 50 ml.

In order to calculate this parameter, you can use this formula: 0.75 is multiplied by the length, height and width of the organ, which are set by performing an ultrasound. The calculation also takes into account the correlation coefficient, which makes it possible to obtain a more accurate result. It should be noted that this kind of calculations are used quite rarely, because Up-to-date ultrasound devices allow you to set the volume of the bubble automatically.

What size should the bladder be normal?

As already mentioned, this body has such a property as extensibility, which ultimately allows you to increase both the size and its volume. That is why, as such, the norm of the volume of the bladder, both in men and in women, does not exist. In literary sources one can find information only about the fact that this anatomical formation has a volume of 200-400 ml.

When carrying out the research, one can find an obvious regularity: in men, the bladder has a somewhat larger size than in women. This is due to a stronger physical development, as well as the direct location of the organ itself.
