What does ultrasound of the pelvic organs show?
From the name it can be guessed that with this survey, an assessment is made of those systems of organs that are located directly in the cavity bounded by the pelvic bones. If we talk about women, then in their conduct of this kind of research they examine:
- ovaries;
- fallopian tubes;
- the uterus;
- bladder;
- rectum.
Given the above list of organs, this type of ultrasound examination is an integral part of the diagnosis with symptoms such as a violation of the duration and regularity of menstruation, the appearance of pathological discharge from the organs of the reproductive system, as well as with suspicions of tumor-like processes (cysts). In addition, ultrasound of the small pelvis, performed in women often shows that there are violations in the organs of excretory system (sand, stones).
How is the preparation for the examination procedure carried out?
This study can be carried out in several ways: through the front abdominal wall (transabdominal), through the vagina (transvaginal), through the rectum (transrectal). Each of these methods of examination has its own characteristics in the preparation, which women are warned on the eve of the study. However, in this case there are common points, among which:
- Exclusion from the diet of food promoting increased gassing (legumes, vegetables, bread, dairy products);
- immediately before the study itself (on the day of its conduct), a cleansing enema is prescribed.
If we talk directly about the features of each type of ultrasound of the pelvic organs, then the following should be noted:
- when transabdominal research - doctors recommend filling a woman with a bladder (drink 1-1.5 liters of water), with an emergency ultrasound, the bladder is filled through a catheter;
- with transvaginal access - a bubble, on the contrary, must be emptied.
When is it best to do ultrasound examination for diseases of the reproductive system?
The so-called gynecological ultrasound, doctors try to spend approximately 7-10 days after the end of menstruation. At this time, it is best to diagnose disorders in the work of appendages, uterus, - polycystosis, endometritis, erosion.
If the doctor has suspicions of such a disease as uterine myoma, ultrasound is prescribed right after the end of menstruation, - 1-2 days after menstruation. Endometriosis, in turn, can be established only shortly before the onset of menstruation. These features of the study are necessarily taken into account by the doctor.
Each woman should monitor her health and undergo ultrasound of the pelvic organs not only when her something is bothering. Such a survey should be carried out at least once a year. If women have a question about what ultrasound of the pelvic floor is, do not worry and think that this is a painful procedure, and it's best to ask the doctor about everything. In most cases, they themselves warn about the features of this study, paying special attention to women's nuances of preparation for the procedure.
