Yellow discharge after delivery

After childbirth, the processes necessary for the purification and restoration of the genitourinary system take place in the woman's body. During this period it is necessary to carefully monitor the condition, observe the rules of personal hygiene and the procedures prescribed by the doctor.

Postpartum discharge - lochia

Immediately after the end of labor, a bright red discharge begins to emerge from the uterine cavity, which are called lochia. Usually in the first 2-3 days of excretion, they are abundant enough, they can contain pieces of dead epithelium, particles of the afterbirth and blood clots. So it should be, because the main purpose of lousy is the removal of dead tissue from the uterus and the purification of the birth canal.

In the following days, the secretions become less intense and change color, becoming brownish-brown. The process goes on, and by the tenth day the number of lochies is halved, they have a brownish-yellow color, gradually becoming more and more light. After the expiration of a fortnight after the delivery, the excreta is usually stopped.

This is how a typical process of postnatal purification of an organism occurs in a woman. But if the nature of the discharge changes, and abnormalities are observed, this is an immediate reason to consult a doctor.

Causes of the appearance of yellow discharge after delivery

Pale yellow ungrowth at the end of the second week after the birth of the child, do not cause cause for concern, but only testify to the normal course of the process. Violations are indicated by the appearance of yellow discharge on day 4-5 after delivery. The cause of purulent yellow discharge after childbirth can be inflammation of the uterine mucosa - endometritis.

With endometritis, mucosal discharge after delivery has a bright yellow or greenish tint with an admixture of pus, and a sharp putrefactive odor. The disease is also accompanied by pain in the lower abdomen and an increase in temperature.

The causes of endometritis may be uterine trauma during childbirth or during postpartum procedures. The appearance of green discharge after childbirth indicates infection in the uterine cavity and a rapidly flowing inflammatory process. Purulent discharge after childbirth occurs in the case of a slight contraction of the uterus and, as a consequence, the impossibility of lochy to go outside. At the same time they rot and develop inflammation.

It must be said that yellow mucous discharge can appear in a couple of weeks after delivery. In this case, the endometritis passes less intensively with less pronounced symptoms. The earlier greenish or yellow-green discharge appears after delivery, the more intense the disease.

When there is a yellow discharge after childbirth, in no case can it be treated independently. Endometritis is a very serious disease requiring treatment under the supervision of a doctor. Quite often the disease is so severe that it requires immediate hospitalization of the patient.

If the yellow-green discharge after delivery has appeared in women while they are in the maternity hospital, then in case of severe endometritis, the necessary procedures are carried out on site.

Usually, when the uterine mucosa is inflamed, antibiotic treatment, local procedures and multivitamins are prescribed. However, in severe cases, scraping of the damaged inflamed epithelium of the uterus is required to clean the mucosa, and allow the upper layer of the membrane to recover.
