Amigurumi Toys

Many mothers can knit or crochet and with pleasure do it: to see the baby in a knitted hat or waistcoat can now be at every step. But if you adore needlework and are ready to devote almost all your free time to this, try making small amigurumi toys that will not only become favorites of your crumbs, but will also be a wonderful gift to your friends or relatives.

What is the art of amigurumi?

As you can guess by the name, this way of knitting came to us from faraway Japan and immediately took root. Mostly amigurumi toys depict cute and kind animals, humans or humanoid creatures, less often inanimate objects. In order to make such cute souvenirs, you will need ordinary yarn and basic knowledge of the basics of knitting. Similar products are knitted in the simplest way - in a spiral, but, unlike European needlewomen, Japanese masters do not connect the resulting circles among themselves.

Now the most popular amigurumi toys are crocheted. But remember that the size of the hook should be slightly less than the thickness of the yarn. This avoids gaps in the manufacture of the product and makes it dense to prevent the padding material from caving out.

Usually such toys consist of parts, which are then connected in series. If you want to make any animal without limbs, this simplifies the task: the head and trunk can be tied as one. The body of the figure is stuffed with fiber filler, and pieces of plastic are placed in the limb to give the product a larger mass.

Standard knitted amigurumi toys necessarily have a cylindrical trunk, a large ball-shaped head and small limbs.

Helpful Tips

If you are just starting to get acquainted with this kind of needlework, you will definitely need the recommendations of experienced masters: Beginners are often advised to make a single amigurumi ring, but once you are a little comfortable, go to the double ring. Then the edge of the product will look neater.

Mark the beginning of the row when knitting with a marker, a pin or a thin thread of contrasting color, so as not to get off while counting loops. Always count the number of loops in a row. Even in the simplest amigurumi toys for beginners, you can easily tie an extra loop or, conversely, skip it.
