Anchoring

Anchoring is a simple technique that can help in freeing oneself from fears, insecurities, complexes or attacks of aggression. The anchoring technique came from NLP - neuro-linguistic programming, which is one of the popular areas of practical psychology and psychotherapy, which has not received academic recognition, despite universal fame.

Anchoring in NLP

In order to better understand the essence of this phenomenon, let us consider simple life examples. Remember, do you have a special song that serves as a reminder of a happy event? Or a certain smell, which you associate with only one person? Or dislike for the song, which for a long time is on the alarm clock? All this is anchoring.

The technique of anchoring is in fact a conscious development of the acquired reflex. This is a very simple technique, which we all have on an intuitive level.

In order to establish an anchor, you do not always need to repeat repetition of actions - sometimes enough, and one very bright case (and it does not matter - a very joyful case or very painful). Any event that impressed you, in the end comes down to anchoring.

How does the anchoring method work?

In order to use technology, it is only necessary to connect in the minds of an element with a special state, thoughts or emotions. Virtually all sensory organs can be involved in this process - i.e. you can use visual, and auditory, and olfactory, and kinesthetic factors.

It is fairly easy to work with this, and the results will surely please you. So, do the following:

  1. First, select the reaction that you would like to call yourself (say calm).
  2. Then, remember which of the types of perception do you relate to - visuals, audiales or kinesthetics? It is best to choose a factor from the category closest to you.
  3. Choose the appropriate signal, based on the results of previous reflections (say, touch the earlobe).
  4. Tie together the signal and the condition (when you are as calm and relaxed as possible, touch the earlobe - it is worth repeating several times).

Perform a check: when a signal occurs, the right sensation should arise (when you touch the ear, you calm down). It is believed that you need to choose the most accessible signals - usually this touch. Strive to make sure that your anchors do not intersect each other - that is, only one signal was on one state.
