Attractions Brno

The city with an unusual name Brno is the second largest in the Czech Republic after Prague . It is located in the south of the country in the area of the connection of the rivers Svigavy and Svratki. There is a version that the name of the city came from the ancient Czech word "brne" - armor, that is, it was built as a fortification structure.

To date, Brno, as it has many historical sites, is considered one of the most popular tourist centers in the Czech Republic. And even if you have visited Brno several times, you will always find that you can see interesting things.

Castles of Brno

According to historical data, the city of Brno grew up around the ancient fortress of Spielberg, built in the 13th century, which was built in the Gothic style. This powerful fortification was never taken by the conquerors. Then in the middle of the 19th century the well-known Austro-Hungarian prison was located. During excursions around the fortress, tourists get acquainted not only with the history of Brno, but also with the legends of the times of the existence of the prison.

In the corner tower there is an observation deck with a magnificent view of the city. The well of the fortress is also a well, more than 100 m deep.

Very interesting excursion to the ancient castle in Brno, more precisely, the fortress of Veverzhi on the hill of the Moravian Reserve. The spirit of antiquity and the Middle Ages is felt here in everything: interior decoration, buildings with watchtowers, a chapel, an impregnable wall.

New Town Hall

The new town hall has been in existence for more than 7 centuries, initially this building was built for carrying out ships and seys. And today it is used for its intended purpose, as councils of the city and assembly of deputies are held here.

During the tour of the New Town Hall it is interesting to see the staircase in the first courtyard in the Renaissance style, the portals of the building that used to be part of the no longer existing houses, and fragments of frescos created in the Middle Ages.

Old Town Hall

The Old Town Hall is the oldest building in Brno and from a distance attracts the attention of tourists with its tall tower. At the bottom of the tower there is a very interesting luxury portal in the late Gothic style, decorated with Pilgrim's works and ending with gates of tin and iron strips. On the tower platform an exhibition of the history of construction of the building is opened, and on the second floor - the oldest room of the town hall, the so-called treasury.

Here in the old town hall there are two most famous sights of Brno - a crocodile and a wheel.

Peter and Paul Cathedral in Brno

The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, which the townspeople call Petrov, is located on a hill where the first fortress of Brno was tentatively. Initially it was built in the Gothic style, but after the reconstruction of the late 19th century it acquired a neo-Gothic look. Here you can see a sculpture of a Madonna with a baby, a tomb of the XII century, altars in the Baroque style and a clock that always beat noon at 11 o'clock, in memory of the bell ringer who saved the whole city in 1645.

Monastery of Capuchins

Near the cathedral there is a Capuchin monastery, built approximately in the 17th century. Many tourists visit it because of the crypts with the burials of the monks, where thanks to the air circulation system, the bodies were not decomposed and are very similar to the living ones.

Aquapark Brno

In not very big Czech Republic there are many water parks. One of them is Akvaland Moravia Aquapark, located 20 minutes from Brno. There are 12 indoor and outdoor swimming pools, 20 different slides, SPA-salons, saunas, cafes and bars. The water park is open all year round.
