Health hazard after a dog bite
The bite of a dog is dangerous for the victim, since it can cause:
- bleeding, including internal;
- damage to tissues, while superficial bites disrupt the integrity of the skin, and with lacerations, the muscles, ligaments, joints and bones suffer;
- infection of the bite site, which can cause local inflammation or general sepsis ;
- psychological shock and, as a result, increased blood pressure, a sharp change in heart rate, etc.
Sometimes the effects of psychological shock can affect a person for a long time (stammering, phobia).
Consequences of a bite of a dog
The most dangerous consequence of a canine bite is a rabies infection. Medical statistics impartially asserts: in 60% of cases people become infected with rabies from dogs. And the deadly disease is not only a consequence of the bite of the dog by the leg and other parts of the body, but it can also occur when the saliva of the diseased animal hits the mucous membranes or the damaged skin.
Symptoms of rabies in the absence of vaccination appear after 1.5-2 weeks after a bite, and with superficial wounds, after 2-3 months. The patient has such characteristic symptoms as:
- dry mouth;
- convulsions;
- hallucinations;
- unmotivated aggression;
- high sensitivity to light and sound stimuli;
- hydrophobia and spasms of throat muscles;
- confusion of consciousness;
- paralysis.
After about a week, the breath stops, and the patient dies.
To prevent illness and death, the victim of a bite is given a course of vaccinations in a specialized office, which is available in virtually any city.
