Pahistahis is an interesting tropical plant, which, nevertheless, infrequently decorates home flower beds and garden plots. The reason for this disregard for this entertaining representative of the exotic flora is mainly a misconception about its extreme capriciousness and all sorts of difficulties on the way to its cultivation. In fact, it is no more demanding than other habitual "inhabitants" of window sills.
Description of the pachistahis
The natural environment of the growth of this evergreen shrub is the moist forests of India and Central America. At home, it reaches 70 cm in height. The leaves are dense, oval, dark green in color. Of particular interest are bracts - spiky formations of bright yellow color. Some mistakenly mistook them for flowers, but this is not true - the flowers of the pachistahis are white, grow perpendicular to the bract and, unfortunately, quickly fade and fall. The flowering period lasts from early spring to late autumn.
Pahistahis: Care and Reproduction
Faced with a plant for the first time, the flower growers are asked the natural question: "How does the pahistahis multiply?" It's simple: the reproduction of the pachistahis is carried out with the help of cuttings. It should be noted that according to the recommendations of specialists described in the literature, it is better to do this in the early spring, but, as the experience of flower growers shows, the season does not matter at all: the cuttings possess excellent ability to root, irrespective of the season.
When starting to reproduce a flower of the pahistahis, it is useful to take into account some tips:
- when preparing cuttings, it must be remembered that they must contain internodes and be 10-15 cm long;
- for rooting, you can use both an earth mix and just a glass of water;
- for the time of the rooting process (which usually takes 2-3 weeks), it is better to cover the cuttings with a hood and film and create favorable temperature conditions - 20-22 ° C;
- the transplantation of ingrained cuttings should be carried out in small pots, with a diameter of 12-13 cm, as the limitation of the volume of the soil stimulates flowering;
- after the end of the first flowering pahistahis can be transplanted to a permanent place in a large pot;
- The optimal substrate for pachystaxis consists of peat, turf and sand.
After reproduction pahistahis especially needs proper and thorough care, and this applies to both the mother plant and the new ones resulting from the propagation of cuttings.
Conditions for pahystahis
The plant will feel best in bright light, however, not under direct sunlight. The optimum temperature regime for its content lies in the range of 16-25 ° C, but in winter it is quite normal to transfer the temperature drop to
Pahistahis irrigation
In the warm season, the pahistahis should be watered abundantly, not allowing the earthen coma to dry out. To be faithful, you can put the pot in a container of water, making sure that the roots do not touch the water. In the heat, the leaves should also be additionally moistened by regular spraying. In winter, watering should be limited.
Pahystahis fertilization
In spring, autumn, and also after breeding, it is necessary to feed pachistahis regularly with a solution of special liquid fertilizers or mullein , every two weeks, after the plentiful watering.
