Cultivation of Japanese chaenomeles

For the successful cultivation of chanomeles, you should know some rules of care for it:

1. Location. For normal growth, henomeles require a lot of light, so plant it better in a sunny place on the south side of the house. It is very important that the groundwater flows no closer than 2 meters from the roots of the bush. The chosen place should be prepared in the fall: dig, remove weeds and, if necessary, introduce fertilizers.
2. The soil. Alkaline and peat soils are not suitable for planting this shrub. It is recommended to choose a site with a light sandy loamy, loamy or sod-podzolic soil. It should be sufficiently fertile and have a weak acidity .
3. Landing. It is held in the spring. When planting saplings, account should be taken of the spreading of its branches and leaving between plants at least 1-2 meters. Landing is carried out in pits with a depth of up to 80 cm and a diameter of about 50 cm. Preliminary, they should lay organic and mineral fertilizers.
4. Care. In order for the bush to look neat, it should regularly cut (remove dry and weak branches), if it is necessary to rejuvenate it, then branches older than 5 years are cut out completely. Watering chaenomeles should only occur during periods of drought, when there is little natural precipitation.
5. Wintering. In order to endure winter frosts, the young Chaenomeles require protection from the wind and sufficient snow accumulation. If this is not the case, at -30 ° C, flower buds and annual shoots freeze, which adversely affects further flowering and fruiting. To avoid this, you can create around it a covering structure or bend it to the ground to cover it completely with snow.
6. Reproduction. Can be carried out by seed and vegetative methods (cuttings and root layers).

Chenomeles is highly resistant to various pests, therefore, it does not need preventive measures.
