Fetal changes at week 27

The 27th week of pregnancy is the beginning of the third trimester of pregnancy . By this time the weight of the fetus reaches 1 kilogram, length - 34 cm, head diameter - 68 mm, transverse size of the abdomen - 70 mm, and chest - 69 mm. At the 27th week of pregnancy, the fetal movements become more tangible, as the fetus has already reached a sufficiently large size, its musculoskeletal system continues to improve and therefore, the movements are more active.

Fetal changes at week 27

At 27 weeks the fetus is practically formed: the cardiovascular system, the urinary system (it excretes the urine into the amniotic fluid), the musculoskeletal system, the lungs and the bronchi are already formed, but the surfactant is not yet produced. If such a child is born, then in the case of assistance, the chances of survival are more than 80%. The position of the fetus on the 27th week can be changed and set before delivery. In this gestational age, the toddler moves with hands and feet, blinks, swallows amniotic fluid and hiccups (a woman senses moderate intensity shocks), sucks her finger. The fetus at 27 weeks already performs respiratory movements (up to 40 movements per minute).

Fetal activity at week 27

Fetal activity at week 27 depends on many factors. So, the wiggling of the fetus increases with the physical and mental strain of the mother. Increase in fetal activity may be associated with hypoxia (with feto-placental insufficiency, intrauterine infection ) - its initial manifestation, and with its aggravation, on the contrary, it can sharply decrease.

We saw that at the 27th week of pregnancy the baby is already quite active, is able to do much and is almost ready to live in the environment. In this term, the metabolism and resistance to stresses ends.
