How to accelerate the maturation of peppers in the open ground?

Coming from the hot south, sweet pepper has already found its place for a long time both on our tables and on our garden plots. But the trouble is that the local climatic conditions do not always suit the overseas guest and the fruits rarely reach ripeness. What to do if the pepper does not turn red on the bed, how to accelerate its maturation on the bush in the open ground?

How to accelerate the ripening of sweet pepper?

Let's talk at once that the sweet pepper culture is pretty capricious, requiring a lot of heat and sunlight, so if the weather has already finally "turned to autumn," the best way is to simply remove the existing crop, without waiting for its biological ripeness. But if the night temperature does not fall below +10 degrees, the following measures will help to accelerate ripening of pepper fruits:

  1. Bed with peppers should be covered with non-woven covering material, in order to build a film greenhouse above it a little later. In sunny weather, the greenhouse should be carefully aired, and carefully closed at night. If there is a stationary greenhouse on the site, you can also transplant pepper bushes with unripened fruits, but at the same time there is a great risk of damaging their tender root system.
  2. Strongly grown pustus bushes need to be cut off - remove lateral shoots and lower leaves, and pinch the apical growth points. This will improve air circulation and direct all the nutrients to the ripening fruit, as well as avoid the buildup of excess green mass.
  3. The green part of the pepper bushes should be treated with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers or infusion of ashes, which contain all the microelements necessary for the fastest ripening of the fruit. It is also possible to use stimulants of fruit formation for foliar treatment, such as "Bud" or "Ovary".
