In winter, when the window is snowy and cold, most houseplants are at rest. Only a few of them at this time "awake", pleasing us with their flowering. Such winter flowers include the zigokaktus, which is often called the Decembrist or Christmas.
What can I do to make the Decembrist blossom?
To make this luxurious indoor flower bloom at the right time, it's enough to observe certain conditions:
- sufficient, but not excessive lighting: the Decembrist grows well on a sun-drenched windowsill, on a balcony, in a winter garden;
- the correct temperature of its content is 18-24 ° C;
- Regular watering as the soil dries up in the pot. Zygocactus does not tolerate excessive humidity, especially in a cool room;
- use for watering only warm and unstable water;
- a periodic warm shower to clean the leaves of dust;
- it is advisable to pinch the crown to form a beautiful crown.
But it also happens that, despite seemingly tolerable conditions of maintenance, the plant does not form peduncles. Why, then, does the Decembrist flower bloom poorly or not at all? The reason for this can be abundant watering, a low temperature content or an overly spacious pot. Think about whether your green pet is exposed to one of these dangerous factors? In addition to the absence of flowering, it can easily die from drafts or rotting roots. Correct the current situation - this, as practice shows, is the correct way to make the Decembrist bloom.
And, at last, one more good means to help a plant to blossom is a short period of rest, which you must organize it. It should be done ideally in October-November, in extreme cases - in January, but not in the summer. For one and a half to two months, move the pot with the Decembrist in a cool (15 ° C) place and cut the watering up to 1 time in 2 weeks. You should water it with a small amount of liquid (1-3 teaspoons, depending on the size and age of the plant).
