Sometimes it happens that grown in love and trembling seedlings in a greenhouse or in the open ground behaves completely differently than it seemed - the flowers on it fall off, and without letting the ovary. This is incredibly frustrating, because we set the goal of harvesting a large crop, and it does not. What is the reason for this phenomenon and what to do with it, how to "make" tomatoes fruit - learn from our article.
The reasons for the absence of ovaries on a tomato
The most common reasons are:
- Air temperature. Often due to temperature mismatch, the flowers fall off, and not having been pollinated. Comfortable temperature for tomatoes is + 28-29 ° С in the daytime and + 13-21 ° С at night. If the seedlings are planted in a greenhouse, the maximum permissible temperature is + 36 ° C. If tomatoes stand for at least an hour at a temperature of + 40 ° C, it is almost with a 100% chance of sterilization of pollen and the loss of flowers. If you do not give them a "rest" at night, that is, do not provide a temperature below +20 ° C, this will also have a harmful effect on the potential crop. And no spraying and feeding in this case will not save the situation.
- Humidity. The humidity range at which tomatoes feel comfortable is 40-70%. It is more difficult to control this indicator than the temperature, but it is still possible. You can raise it by simply spraying with water or a light solution of complex fertilizer in the morning. But lowering the humidity is more difficult. It is recommended to mulch the bushes, and watering through the bottles dug in the bed without a bottom.
- Lack or excess of nitrogen. Although tomatoes like nitrogen, they do not need to overfeed, because it is fraught with the reverse effect: the bush will build up a green mass, a thick stem, but there will be few flowers and ovaries on it. If the bush is not enough, on the contrary, it will be feeble and will not be able to bear fruit.
- Other causes: strong wind, too many fruits, insufficient watering, diseases and pests, lack of light, excess of lime.
How to increase the number of ovaries on tomatoes?
There are several ways to increase the yield of a tomato, for example - spraying. Than to sprinkle tomatoes for ovaries:
- boric acid - sprinkle with a solution of 1 g per 1.5 liters of water a week before planting the seedlings, is especially important if the seedling is overgrown and already there are flowers;
- "Ovary" - suitable for desperate situations, where it is not possible to constantly monitor the temperature and humidity, but the fruits are obtained unnatural with a small number of seeds and a completely different taste;
- HB-101 is an excellent remedy, increases yield by improving the general physiological condition of plants and increasing their resistance to disease.
Another way is dressing. Fertilizer for the ovary tomato is made for the first time - 2 weeks after planting in the greenhouse, and then, in
- during the season - 2 more times. How to feed tomatoes for ovaries:
- extract from superphosphate foliar by foliar (1 tsp per 10 liters of water);
- phosphate-potassium fertilizers under the root.
Also there are several folk remedies for ovary tomato. For example, to help in the movement of pollen, tapping on the trellis to which the plant is tied is recommended, which facilitates the movement of pollen and normal pollination. However, if the recommended temperatures are not observed, this method will not help, because sterile pollen will not give the ovaries.
There are several folk tricks and means for ovary tomatoes, if the night temperatures are too low:
- late at night, pour your tomatoes with warm water, it will keep warm until the morning;
- in a greenhouse with a cold can be fought by installing batteries of daytime heat (containers with water), at night they will give the accumulated heat.
These methods save the situation if the temperature differences in the daytime and at night are not too large, because they can raise the temperature by 2-3 degrees. In other cases, more radical measures are needed - the organization of a heating system, additional hiding of greenhouses with felt, etc.
