Joshta - planting and care

Joshta is a hybrid berry culture. Thanks to genetic engineering, Western European biologists have obtained a hybrid of black currant and gooseberry - joshta. Berry in some parameters outstrips the parental forms: the fruit contains a lot of pectin, organic acids, vitamin C. Yoshta has medicinal properties - it removes radioactive substances and salts of heavy metals from the body.

Varieties of yoshty

At present, several hybrids of the plant have been removed. Briefly tell about the most popular species.

  1. EMB is a variety bred by English breeders. Quite tall (more than 1.5 m) and spreading bush coloring the bark, the size of the leaves resembles a black currant. Large oval-shaped berries look more like the fruits of gooseberry. Vegetation of the variety begins early, and by the middle of June the first berries are already ripening.
  2. Krona is a hybrid from Sweden. The bush is spaced, there are no spines on the shoots. Large berries are collected in a brush and almost do not crumble.
  3. Rex is an unpretentious variety with oval berries and a delicate taste.
  4. In Russia, a promising hybrid of SKN-8 was introduced.

All varieties of yoshty are undemanding to the soil, drought-resistant and well survive frosty winters. In addition, the berry crop is resistant to pests: buds, aphids. There were no cases of fungal and viral diseases affecting the bushes. The only pest that can cause minor damage is pobake.

Growing yoshty

Planting and caring for yoshty are also produced as parental plants.

The yoshti shrub grows well in the open, well-lit cottage area. It is better to plant yoshty in the second half of September - early October, so that the plant is rooted to permanent frosts. If you planned to plant a berry bush in the spring, then it is necessary to proceed to work as early as possible, so that the joshta takes root before the heat.

For planting the soil is prepared, as for the currant - with a high content of potassium. Under the bush is digging a fairly deep pit with a diameter of about 3 meters. Care of the bush is simple: every year you should mulch the soil in the trunk area. Experienced gardeners are advised to use mulch as peat or humus. Each bush requires 15 - 20 kg of mulch. The fertilization of yoshty is carried out with the same fertilizer complex as the black currant: 4 kg of organic fertilizers, 20 g of potassium sulfate, 30 g of superphosphate .

Pruning yoshte is almost not required, only with the onset of spring days, the frozen and withered branches are slightly cut. Yoshta needs abundant and frequent watering.

Reproduction of yoshty

Reproduction methods of the hybrid are the same as for the cultivation of currant and gooseberries. Reproduction yoshty produced cuttings, vertical and horizontal layers. More often, amateur gardeners use the method of propagation by cuttings. For this purpose, lignified cuttings 1 cm thick and about 15 cm long are prepared, with the upper cut done above the kidney, and the lower cut along the her. To accelerate the formation of roots, stimulating solutions are used, which can be purchased at a specialized store. Cuttings are planted in a soft, loose soil in such a way that the upper bud is almost at the ground level. The soil is compacted and abundantly watered. It is better to plant the planting material in the fall, so that by the spring the bush is rooted.

Why does not the joshta bear fruit?

Sometimes gardeners complain about the low fruiting of the hybrid. Experts recommend that to get a good and stable harvest of fruits, plant gooseberries and black currants near the yoshts.
