Larch - planting and care

Let's get acquainted with the perennial coniferous tree - larch. Its height sometimes reaches 45 meters. Needles on larch green, but different shades. There have long been several main species of larch: Siberian, American, Japanese, European. Today, breeders have improved varieties. The fastest growing is the European larch.

This beautiful durable and hardy wood, unlike other conifers, for the winter discards all its needles, and in the spring they grow again. Many people do not like this property of larch: one wants to admire an evergreen tree. But larch is perfectly combined with other trees in the garden: oaks, maples, lindens, and looks great against the background of firs and firs of dark green color.

How to plant larch?

For planting larch, you need to choose an open, well-lit area. The soil for it consists of leaf land, sand and peat. If the soil on the plot is heavy clay or too marshy, for planting of larch saplings drainage is necessary, as it is better to use broken brick (a layer about 20 cm). Sour soils must first be lime slaked lime or dolomite flour. Saplings should be planted at a distance of 2-3 meters from each other. The root system lies deep, which provides the tree with excellent wind resistance.

Like other coniferous trees, larch needs constant connection with mushrooms. When planting larch seedlings, it is necessary to remember that mycorrhiza of mushrooms has settled on its roots. Try not to damage it by planting a tree. Very useful for young larches watering the water remaining after washing mushrooms. Or you can bury a few wormy mushrooms with ripe spores near the larch trunk.

Before planting larch, you need to dig a hole, pour two or three times with water and allow it to soak well into the ground. Now you can put a larch seedling in a hole and sprinkle the trunk with earth. The near-trunk circle of the soil must be covered with sawdust or peat (layer 5 cm).

On a permanent growth site, larch should be planted at the age of 1, and preferably 2 years. However, for the purposes of planting a plot this age is too small. Therefore, adult six-year-old larch planted in soft containers, and older - even with a frozen earth lump. Larch European, with appropriate care for it, easily tolerates planting and at the age of 20 years.

It is best to plant larch in the fall period, after the fall of the fall. You can transplant them in the spring, before bud budding on the tree.

Care of the larch

A young tree can suffer from a severe summer drought. In such periods, you should water the larch a couple of times a week, pouring under each tree to 20 liters of water. For adult larches, watering is not necessary. Near young seedlings, it is necessary to loosen the soil, and also to remove the weeds.

In order for the larva to become more accustomed to grow faster and gain wood pulp, nutrients of the tree are necessary with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers . On 1 m 2 of soil it is necessary to bring 50-100 grams of additional fertilizing. To protect against pests, the larch sprout must be treated with special chemicals.

It should be remembered, that in larch the apical shoot during its intensive growth is an extremely sensitive part of the tree. Therefore, it should be protected from blows of branches of neighboring trees or rough touches by hands, as this can lead to a curvature of the tree branch.

Adult larch do not need shelter for the winter. The trunks of the sham larch for the first few years after planting for the winter are wrapped with two layers of sacking. As the growth increases, the frost resistance of such larches gradually increases.

As you can see, planting and caring for the larch is not so complicated, but if everything is done correctly, a beautiful green beauty will grow on your site.
