Combating snails in the garden

The insidiousness of snails and slugs is that you will not see them in the afternoon, as they sit out in the damp and cool corners of the garden. But during the night these "sliders" can thoroughly plant the leaves on young cultivated plants and destroy the ripening harvest. To prevent this, fighting with snails in the garden should be effective, but, if possible, sparing.

Combating garden snails by mechanical methods

The snail does not belong to the hated insects, which you want to crush like a Colorado beetle. They are very nice and beautiful creatures, which sometimes lead to emotion. They are very popular with children. And here comes the time to mention one of their methods of combating snails in the garden.

Ask the children to put in a bucket or a jar of all the snails they will find in the garden. Turn it into a game, sure that the children will like it. All the collected snails can simply be taken to the nearest forest and released.

In addition, to collect snails no less effectively can toads and frogs, as well as domestic ducks. It is worth releasing them to the garden, as they will take up eating this delicious food. Just remember that birds will not stand on ceremony with plantings and can tread them out and pluck them.

Many gardeners arrange the area of the trap, laying on the ground sheets of cardboard, plywood, sacking, oiled on the reverse side of rancid butter, curdled milk or a solution of sour dough. The snails gathered there can be massively removed from the garden.

Also, physical barriers in the form of gutters filled with water along the perimeter of beds, dry porous materials, crushed cutting compositions in row-spacing (egg shells, shells) also help not bad. You can also use individual plant protection in the form of rims - homemade and purchased. All these methods protect cultural plants from attacking snails.

But the question: is it possible to press snails on the garden plot, the answer is ambiguous. You, of course, can crush all the individuals caught in the garden, but this will help you a little in the struggle, because soon a new generation hatches from the eggs left by them. So cruelty will be unjustified.

Combating snails with folk remedies

There are a lot of popular ways, and here are the most popular of them:

  1. In places of accumulation of snails, pour more salt - they are unlikely to survive such an impact. Just be careful with the beds - salt can damage cultural plants.
  2. Plant in the inter-row between mustard, thyme, rosemary or parsley - these spicy plants can not tolerate snails.
  3. Refrain the beds with sawdust or sprinkle the land with ashes - this will greatly complicate the movement of snails in the garden.
