Marginal presentation of the chorion - 12 weeks

When conducting ultrasound at 12 weeks a woman can hear from the doctor about the marginal presentation of the chorion. Despite the fact that most expectant mothers have no idea what this term could mean, a panic condition after such an ultrasound examination is observed quite often. Let's try to understand: what does the marginal presentation of the chorion mean, and what is the danger of such an arrangement of the outer shell of the embryo.

What is meant by the term "marginal previa"?

To begin with, it must be said that this kind of location of the chorion, from which the placenta subsequently forms, is a kind of partial presentation. In such cases, there is a slight overlap in the uterine throat. At the same time, the uterine canal does not overlap by more than 30%.

When performing ultrasound, doctors note that the chorion with its lower edge only slightly covers the entrance to the uterus.

What is dangerous marginal presentation of the chorion?

When diagnosing this disorder, doctors take the pregnant woman under control. The thing is that this arrangement of the chorion increases the risk of uterine bleeding, which in turn can lead to a complete interruption of the gestation period.

However, it is worth mentioning about such phenomenon as migration of the placenta, i.e. change its location during the gestation of the fetus. This process is rather slow and ends in about 32-35 weeks. This is not the movement of the placenta itself, but the displacement of the underlying myometrium. According to statistical data, in about 95% of cases of low location of the placenta, its migration occurs.

Thus, it can be said that such a presentation of the chorion during pregnancy, as a regional one, should not cause stress and feelings in the future mother. In most cases, the gestation process passes without complications. From the very same pregnant woman, only strict adherence to the recommendations and instructions of the doctor is required.
