The Whale Museum in Ulsan is the only one in the country. The opening took place on May 31, 2005 in the port of Changshenpo. It is interesting that earlier this city was commercial and whaling. When there was a threat of complete extermination of whales, in 1986, a ban on whale hunting entered into force. For 20 years after these events, a collection of exhibits was held for the creation of the museum . More than 250 exhibits were collected, and over the last decade the whale museum has expanded its funds.

The museum is a 4-storey building with a total area of ​​6 thousand 946 square meters. m, the exhibition halls occupied 2 thousand 623 square meters. At the same time, the museum of whales can visit 300 people. In addition to viewing the exposition devoted to whales, scientific seminars and lectures are held here.

  1. The first floor is an educational center for children. There is an information room, a cognitive corner with tests for schoolchildren, a children's play themed room and a hall for children of younger preschool age.
  2. The second floor is dedicated to the past of the city of Ulsan during the whaling season. Here you will see mock-ups of whalers, various tackles. In a separate room the whole process of processing of whale carcasses is shown. Impressive hall with miniatures, in which you can visually see the life of the city, which was closely interrelated with the fishery. On the same floor there is a shop where you can buy souvenirs for memory.
  3. The third and fourth floors are exhibition halls introducing the life and evolution of whales. There are such expositions: underwater travel, migration of whales, body structure of the whale, hall with skeletons and skulls. A separate exhibition is dedicated to gray whales that live near the Korean peninsula. Especially impressive are the re-created copies of the giants in life-size: visitors can feel all the greatness of these animals, just standing next to them. On the 4th floor there is a video room 4D.

In addition to viewing the fascinating expositions of the Whale Museum, you will find a lot of other entertainments. You can do the following:

  1. Walk along the street of whales. The street leading to the museum is decorated with a lot of decorative elements in the form of whales, including even street lights and stops.
  2. A whale sanctuary , where you can take a boat trip and watch the mammals in their natural habitat.
  3. The Dolphinarium is located just 100 meters from the museum, and it will please not only adults, but also children. In addition to an incredible show, everyone will have the opportunity to swim with dolphins and make a few photos in memory in the thematically designed area.
  4. Clean Sea Whale , located opposite the museum, will offer gourmets various dishes of whale meat. Its taste is a little unusual, but this restaurant is very popular. Also here you can taste dishes from seafood and fish.
