When are children applied to children?

Choose the right dosage

  2. For children from one month to one year, nazivin 0.01% is prescribed for 1-2 drops up to 3 times a day.
  3. For children from 1 to 6 years of age, they designate a nasivin of 0.025% 1-2 drops 2-3 times a day.
  4. A nasal spray for children is indicated for children from 1 to 6 years of age. The spray has a longer duration of up to 12 hours, so it is prescribed for 1 injection in each nasal passage no more than 2 times a day.

The drug for all groups of children should not be used for more than 5 days. Prolonged use of nasivine significantly reduces its effectiveness and can lead to atrophic rhinitis, in which the mucous membranes of the nose are damaged and can not function properly.

Like any other medical product, nazivin should be prescribed only by a doctor, because it has a number of contraindications to use, such as diabetes, or kidney and heart disease.

The opinion of pediatricians

The market for pharmacological drugs nazivin is quite a long time, so doctors, based on their own experience, have already formed their opinion about this drug.

The composition of children's nazivina includes the active ingredient oxymetazoline, which not only has a vasoconstrictive effect, but also causes persistent addiction. The substance acts as follows: its effect reduces the diameter of the blood vessels in the nose, so when the supply of blood decreases, the swelling of the mucous membrane and the release of mucus (coryza) also ceases. With an increase in free space in the nose, breathing is temporarily restored, bringing relief. But the cause of the runny nose does not disappear anywhere, therefore at the end of the drug's life the vessels expand again, and even more than before application, and the runny nose makes itself felt with renewed vigor. With frequent and prolonged use of the drug, the vessels lose the ability to narrow themselves and remain dilated until a second dose of the drug is given. Such dependence can provoke the appearance of chronic rhinitis in a child, in which nazivin can no longer help.

Pediatricians are not advised to use it in an ordinary pediatric rhinitis. The use of nazivin is justified only if the runny nose prevents the child from eating or sleeping. Breasts, as is known when sucking breasts breathe through the nose, so if a child is hungry because of what can not normally eat, then you can drip his nose before eating. Quite often the runny nose prevents a child from falling asleep, then you can drip your nose to a child before going to bed.

When is the use of nazivin necessary?

However, there are cases when the use of vasoconstrictive drops, in particular nazivina, is not only justified, but also necessary. With acute middle or purulent otitis, the use of nasivin helps to relieve edema, widen the lumen of the auditory tube, improve the outflow of pus from the tympanic cavity, and restore disturbed ventilation. Therefore, in these cases, it is necessary to use nasivin or other vasoconstrictive drops according to age characteristics.
