Planting of root celery

Many owners of household plots use celery for food, but they do not want to mess with its growing. Planting root celery seems irrational, because you can just buy a few root crops on the market, which are not used very often in the diet. But after all, the taste of shop fruits is much worse than the celery that grew in the garden. And often the store root celery can be stuffed with pesticides, in the roots they accumulate the most.

General information

In fact, sowing and growing celery from seeds is very easy! And you will be sure that its fruits do not contain dangerous chemicals. Home celery has a much more rich flavor, which you will be pleasantly surprised, if you compare it with the taste of store roots. To collect a good harvest of large celery, you need to address this issue in the fall. Prepare for planting a patch for this root as follows: dig deeply the soil and introduce there a mixture of humus with potassium-phosphorus fertilizers. Such fertilizers as manure and bird droppings are not applicable, since they are the cause of infection of plants with various diseases. The soil must have a low acidity and a small percentage of clay in its composition. If the soil is clayey, consider a drainage system to drain excess liquid. If the water stagnates under the roots, the plants will ache, and you will most likely not see tasty "roots". In the spring, dig up the garden well once more, and remove the surface. This is best done only after the night temperature does not fall below the zero mark. Now let's go directly to the very process of sowing.

Sowing and growing celery

It is very important not to freeze the plants. Despite the fact that they can be sown in the winter, during the growing season, the celery dies instantly from the cold. It is for this reason that it is better to wait until landing on warm May days. To begin with, we make furrows (1-2 cm in depth) on the dug in the beds, in which we sow seeds (preferably from last year's harvest). Top with sprinkled soil, slightly tamped, spill grooves with warm water. Before planting the root celery, calculate the place in such a way that after diving each plant had its own 30 square centimeters of its own "living space".

There is another way how to plant root celery is by growing it through seedlings. In this case, the time when you need to sow the celery horse will be different. This is best suited for mid March. For the sowing, the above-mentioned soil composition should be used. Seeds before planting it is desirable to germinate in rain water or using thawed snow. We will offer you an original proven "grandfather" method of seed germination on seedlings. We make shallow grooves in the box where the seedlings will grow, then we spread snow in them (should be back in March). In the process of melting snow will entrain the seeds to the optimum depth. On top, they do not need to be sprinkled, after such a planting of the root celery and care for it will be simpler, because the seeds will germinate in an almost natural way.

Seedlings are planted in the soil in May, observing the prescribed above rule. It is important that the depth to which the plant is planted does not change at the same time. And on top of that, a few helpful tips for taking care of:

  1. Celery should be watered abundantly, but not "poured".
  2. That the fruits were larger and juicier, it is necessary to remove the lower leaves, without touching the upper leaves.
  3. Do not skimp on nitrogen fertilizers during vegetative growth, a minimum of three top dressings should be performed prior to harvesting.
  4. The roots of the plant will be much more correct if you carefully remove the soil from the visible part of the root crop and remove the side shoots.
