Plaza de Armas

Plaza de Armas, or Armory Square in the city of Cusco personifies the existence of residents and sets the rhythm of life. Surrounded by houses of traditional Spanish construction, the Cathedral , churches, it is already more than one hundred years the center of attraction of local residents, and in modern times - tourists. The time on it seemed to stop and everything froze in amber. The eye does not cut the new, absurd buildings of glass and concrete. At first glance it seems that you are in Spain, but still there is a local flavor.

History of occurrence

The origin of the Plaza De Armas dates back to the 15th century. On the square, the ancient Incas conducted Inti-Raymi - the holiday of the Sun, and later on it the Spanish conquistadors announced the conquest of the city. It came about thanks to the perseverance of the Spanish conqueror Manco Capac, between two streams in place of the swamp. During its existence, the Plaza de Armas in Cuzco changed its size, initially it was simply huge. It is interesting that earlier it bore the names of Wakayipat and Plaza de Guerrero.
