Russian plum

The Russian plum, better known as a hybrid plum, was created in the 70-80s of the 19th century as a result of crossing wild plum and Chinese plum. As a result, a variety, fruitful, like cherry plum, turned out with fruits, sweet and juicy, with a light aroma of pineapple and melon.

Russian Plum Description

The fruits of the Russian plum have a color from yellow-orange to red-violet and even black. The fruits of the Russian plum have a weight of up to 30-40 g, not inferior to the best sorts of domestic plums.

Hybrid varieties of Russian plum perfectly adapt to different growth conditions. For example, the variety "Kuban Comet" grows equally well both in the southern regions and in the northern regions, up to St. Petersburg.

Most varieties of Russian plums are good winter hardiness. Specially designed varieties for northern latitudes grow and bear fruit, provided winter temperatures are below -40 ° C. And even if the plant is frozen, it will quickly recover over the summer. If the plant during the flowering period undergoes a short-term freezing, it will not affect fruit bearing in any way.

The first fructification of most varieties of Russian plum comes quite soon - already in the third year after planting. And fruit trees regularly, that is, annually. From a small tree you can collect up to 40 kg of fruit.

As for maturing, they are very diverse, starting from the middle of July and until the 20th of September. If you want to eat plums all season, drop a few different varieties on the site - from early to late.

If you sum up everything that has been said about the merits of Russian plum varieties, you can identify such moments as early fertility, high yield, ripening after harvest, low demand for trees and soil, resistance to diseases and pests, winter hardiness, ability to tolerate spring frosts.

There is, however, a "fly in the ointment": a strong growth in some varieties, self-fertility, sensitivity to sharp temperature changes in the period from February to April, fragility, spines on branches.
